I'm gonna guess they are gonna put Tasso Jereissati (the only bigwig politician from the PSDB that isn't KNOWINGLY involved with corruption schemes) to ram through the austerity reforms then

Because it's a disaster only for the chumps who aren't getting mad profit on it lmao

Also Temer said before he was gonna renounce if he ever had charges pressed against them but he predictably chickened out now

Brazil has a very reactionary political element that's been modeling itself after the "Paranoid Style" of American right wing politics. They don't care if austerity is a proven disaster because any movement to the left is a KGB conspiracy to bring communism to Brazil. Plus they'll make loads of money when the government privatizes public services.

lmao. hmm right wing heads of state refusing to let go of power after turning their countries into disaster zones it's almost like there's a pattern or something

Venezuelans, dear brothers: we talk as the State
We are a coalition of military, police, and civilians
In the search of balance and opposing this transitional criminal government
We are not and do not have any political tendency
We are patriots, nationalist, and institutionalists
This combat is not against the rest of the State security forces
It is against the impunity imposed by this government
It is against tyranny
It is against the deaths of the youths that fight for their legitimate right
It is against hunger and lack of healthcare
It is against fanaticism
This fight is for life, this fight is for the hope we build
It is not vengeance but justice that drives us to make the change
We use this distinction with the color of veracity and Jesus Christ is with us
This is the reason we make a call to all Venezuelans, from east to west, from north to south, to accompany us in this force of fight, and go out to the streets in Caracas
And in the interior of the country, to each military base
To find us again as brothers.

reminds me of early syrian civil war stuff tbh

i cant see this ending in anything but civil war unless the revolt is quickly defeated or the news is overblown tbh. the gov has armed the gently caress out of its supporters essentially creating a massive militia and the upper echelons of the military are very progov. if there is in fact a mutiny from large segments of the military things are going to get extremely bad very quickly.

i used to be extremely defensive of the chavez gov but maduro's insistence on holding onto power despite losing almost all popular support and a completely collapsed economy could only lead to one outcome and now we're seeing it. would have been much smarter to simply accept actual elections and operate as opposition for awhile

maybe but maduro and associates are so mind-bogglingly corrupt that losing power means they would almost certainly spend the rest of their lives in exile or jail

Good news: Left Wing positions in Brazil have grown in the latest opinion polls which means the rising conservative wave has been completely killed by the Temer administration.

Bad News: Senate is very likely to pass the "Labor Reform" which will bring our standards back to the late 19th century.

are there any left-wing parties, perceived or actual, in Brazil that are willing to take up those positions, or is your political party set-up as unaccountable as it is in the US?

i heard that Temer is a hardcore evangelical and his cabinet consists partially of them. it's amazing how grotesque those kinds of christians are when they're in government or perceive someone as being friendly to their interests
