Trying to be healthier slash more creative so made sticky pork meatballs with a rice noodle salad.

Was great, iajwife loved it even though she hates chilli. Was amazed that the dressing came together, although I omitted the oil in the last part since I thought I was overdoing it and it could probably have used the extra liquid.

A loving awesome sausage sizzle

And if you don't call it that you're either a Queensland or Victoria douche and don't deserve an opinion about food

We have sausage sizzles in Victoria. Or do you call the actual food item itself a "sausage sizzle"?

The whole experience is the sausage sizzle; the food item itself alternates between that name and sausage sandwich depending on the vagaries of the universe at that moment.

e: it is also correctly called a democracy sausage if the sizzle is taking place at a voting centre on election day.

Mate what crack pipe have you been on to think we don't call it a sausage sizzle in Queensland!? That's the entire reason I wait to do my hardware shopping on weekends - Bunnings sausage sizzle

You're literally the first person I've heard in this state since I moved here that called it that. Maybe Queensland is getting better....

And as if not go to bunnings every weekend just for a sausage sizzle, without entering the store.

Had some of the wife's family up so did some experimental cooking (mostly as an excuse to finally buy a food processor).

Corn fritters with salsa for entrees (sorry for the terrible photo)

Sesame and poppy crusted salmon with asparagus and roasted potatoes for the main

Raspberry sorbet for dessert, but I didn't get a photo of it since it was inhaled by everyone. Came out awesomely smooth, though :D

Homemade pizza off a pizza stone at 525 degrees

Home made dough, a local grocer makes fresh moz, criminis, a really nice cured salami, and some spinach.

I used a canned sauce as a base but added a poo poo ton of minced garlic, dried red chilis and a splash of wine.

It's the heat from the dried chilis that really makes it.

Looks great!

Home-drying chillis is easy and great and gets you awesome results. I have a Trinidad scorpion chocolate chilli bush and the dried chilli flakes I make from it are pure nightmare/heaven depending on how much you like 1.2-2 million Scoville heat units in your food...

This looks like something unbelievably delicious I'd get from a food truck at 3am while trashed and then never be able to find that truck again

It was very tasty, with tomato pesto sauce and like four random cheeses I found in the fridge. Also the steak was a very nice eye fillet cooked in a butter baste to medium rare before being sliced and added to the drunken mess. Add in some chilli slices from the Trinidad Scorpion Chocolate tree in the garden and it was a wonderful experiment.

I always love having some leftover dough balls in the freezer for random pizza/calzone nights.

vonnegutt posted:

They look tasty! Two things could make them more aesthetic:
- Beat the sugar and the butter for wayyy longer than you think you need to. If you have a stand mixer do it for five full minutes. You want the butter to lighten in color by two shades. By really beating air into the butter, your cookies get a finer, more tender crumb.

- Try resting the dough in the fridge for as long as you can stand - overnight is the absolute best but even an hour will have an impact.
The uneven browning should go away and they should spread more evenly.

Thanks for the advice, it was my first ever attempt making them since I don't have a sweet tooth and although they were tasty af I'm happy to find ways to improve them. I definitely could have beat the butter and sugar longer - I had a beer waiting and was very lazy in how long I stood there doing it. Ditto for resting the dough - I'd promised my pregnant wife cookies 24 hours early so was in a bit of a rush to not get murdered :).

Can't wait to try them again!
