 Just finished reading Volume I of Kotkin's biography of Stalin. Pretty good at putting Stalin in the context of Eurasia during the late 19th and early 20th century. It's repetitive and glazes over some very interesting events. I liked the first half a lot because it's basically "Then Stalin was sent to siberia, then stalin was sent into internal exile, then stalin's wife died, then stalin was sent to jail".
