Also gently caress golden goal rules. It's worse in gridiron because it comes down to a coin flip to see who receives first, but the lack of right to reply is absurd.

Solemn Sloth posted:If the receiver scores on the first drive there's a right of reply isn't there? Apparently not. Pats won the toss, received, went down field for a touchdown and that was that.

I feel like the problem with keeping the bounce just for the start of a quarter means that they still need to train for it, which doesn't really solve the problems that come with having to bounce the ball over and over. That said, having one designated ball bouncer while they scale back to the start of a quarter and then eventually phase the bounce out entirely might work. I think the bounce is good for tradition and spectacle, but I don't think I'd miss it.

Now that I think about it, the only time I actually take any notice of the ball being bounced is when they gently caress it up.

Periphery posted:Yeah, it's been a real good game. Our execution is just letting us down at the wrong times and then the Swans are cutting us up on the turnover. Buddy is good to watch. When McCartin came up hobbling, I was just thankful it wasn't his head. Hickey is definitely showing he's still first choice for ruck. Just need to hit some targets. Multiple times we've been toiling away trying to get it clean inside 50, thhen someone rushes a kick into a turnover and three clean kicks later Sydney are lining up for goal. Hit targets, win the match.

A little disappointed they didn't kick straight at the end there, but that was a good game. Pretty happy.

Woeful umpiring at the end there. Did they forget why they brought in that "no pressure rushed behind" free kick rule? It was because some bloke had a kick in after a point and walked it back over the line a few times to win a game. Not someone killing the ball behind a pack. If that was paid correctly, the rule is loving stupid. Also that holding the ball decision was dumb. No prior and he was trying to get it free. If he was a Dogs player, he would've just dropped the ball and play would've gone on. That said, I was going for the Dogs, so hooray I guess. Bont picking that guy's pocket in the goal square was rad.

Lessons from tonight: 1. Play four quarters. 2. Kick straight. 3. Never play in Western Australia. At least it was an improvement over last year.

If the Saints kicked straight, the last quarter would've been irrelevant. Perhaps they just hoped to be further in front by playing hard early.

Periphery posted:Say what you want about Robbo, but he's not half as bad as Damian Barrett: "As such, the concussion issue has come to bear as a result of refusing to play in the VFL.” What is he even saying here? That Dempster made up the concussion thing and retired just because he didn't want to play in the VFL? God, what a massive wank. It's especially stupid because didn't Dempster cop a knock in the JLT series, too? Back to footy, that Mills kid will be good. That Mayne kid won't.

How could you not think that was going to be called play on? Another thing about Bruce is his constant asking of questions. Was that deliberate? Has he kicked it? Can he get rid of it? It's a minor thing that bugs the hell out of me because he's supposed to be telling, not asking.
