A-ano... I would like to try my hand at this, Ninja-senpai. My late pass is at the ready! I've already written a cooking game in the past, so I'll forswear the box. DNA Cowboys fucked around with this message at 09:48 on Feb 4, 2017 |

Requiem of Rose: The Third Age of the Zalfor Saga Historians remember the twilight years of the Concordant Empire as ones of decadent beauty. Plunder from Empress Theodyne’s Endless Crusade has enriched the nobility like a tick feeding upon a plague-ridden dog, while the lower classes are wracked by bloodshed and despair. The Archivist’s Uprising of 2139 has been excised from all records. This is its chronicle: a tale of betrayal, regret, and desperate hope. Far from the all-seeing mirrors of the Margyte Church’s Blood Inquisitors, the 7th Rose Squadron of soldier-librarians learns the terrible secret of the docents: the nobility’s favored pets are demons, whose word becomes flesh. You are a member of the 7th Rose Squadron and you’re desperate. The Blood Inquisitors arrive on the full moon. They will reveal your Blight -- your passion for love, art, or revolution -- and you will be culled from the garden.

Requiem of Rose: The Third Age of the Zalfor Saga The horror in Requiem of Rose comes from without (bloated, hole-filled demons; transforming into the same; imperialism; colonization) and within (how far are you willing to go to protect your ideals; dark passions; twisted love). Characters are graded on their success in civil service exams: Clerical, Leisure, Academics, Military, and Politics. All characters have Blossoms (secrets), while NPCs also have Thorns (defenses). At the moment, I'm looking to draw on elements of My Life With Master, Paranoia, and The Mountain Witch. We'll see how successful I am! Late Note: Dinner Time “Feed me!” Stolas’s chubby beak opened wide to accept the chocolate-covered cherry. Rauna giggled and obliged. Despite Grigor’s warning about the docents, they were perfectly tame as long as they were fed. The young librarian tapped her cherry-less fork against her docent’s crown, tipping it over the owl’s eyes. He wobbled and bobbled like an upended eggplant. She had made the crown from silver and sacred jade, employing the techniques of the conquered artisans of Yolg. In any other era, it would be a piece for royalty or a messiah. Under the Empress, the work of a conquered people was fit only for the flames of the Elforge. Rauna bit her lip and bapped Stolas again with her fork. The docent squarked at the unexpected rage in Rauna’s strike and wobbled into the teapot. Rauna dove, but it was too late. The teapot struck the ground like a funeral bell. Her funeral bell. The Blood Inquisition would arrive tomorrow. This was her last meal. Crimson Smoke pooled on white marble. That tea could have paid for a year of grain. Her face was haggard in its reflection, her eyes were yellow and slit-pupiled. She had already given so much, and Bado had taken so much more. Her new skin felt like burlap and nails, but even this was better than would come if she failed to protect Grigor. She removed Stolas’s crown and set it aside. His eyes had changed. They were dark and cruel. “Now,” the demon growled. “Feed me.”

Requiem for Rose isn't playable yet, but I'm making progress. It's a lot of ideas circling around one another at the moment. As the different sections get closer and closer, I'm hoping they'll collide and cohere. Horror is tricky. The game is about corruption, so the consequences for giving in need to be tempting. However, the rewards can't be so good that giving in is a foregone conclusion. Just because ruin and doom are likely doesn't mean they're inevitable. Otherwise the game becomes torture porn rather than a meditation on vanity, civilized illusions, and the value of hope. Work in progress. Comments welcome.

Blossom, silent rose! We drink deep of your thorns to resist the blight! The Requim for Rose rough draft is here. I'm looking forward to watching it collapse under its own weight.

[DROP REDACTED] Edit: Nevermind. I misread the rules. Turns out I just need to playtest one other game, which I can totally do tomorrow. That game will be Strikers NG+. I'm cancelling the absolute destiny apocalypse. Kwyndig posted:The game is of course playable, but I wanted to put in a real setting and some advice, maybe even a few family recipes. I'm just out of town until Wednesday and now I'm also facing some government poo poo I really don't want to have to deal with. Yikes. I hope everything works out! More games should include recipes. Strikers NG+ playtest notes are complete. We could have dug into the Callbacks more, but it was a fun session. My players did get pretty lucky at avoiding Scars, so they mostly picked up benefits. Based on their comments though, they still regarded Callbacks as a risk/reward situation. As a result, they were playing conservatively to avoid tempting fate. That said, if we were able to play a second session (the interest is there, but it wouldn't be until the weekend of the 10th...) they're comfortable enough with the system that at least one of them would probably make some rash callbacks.

I'm learning so much about Young Sheldon. Seriously though, thanks for six solid hours of testing! I still have to listen to the last two and I'll save my thoughts until then, but it has been instructive to see what horrors pop up when
