I think ultimately what killed this game was Gaz trying to overreach from the start. Like there's a reason your average ARPG has like five classes tops. They got so caught up trying to make characters and balance them and re-balance them that content fell behind, and since they couldn't pump out new content for people to play regularly enough they had to invent new gear slots, new progression systems, new costumes, basically anything that didn't require a ton of asset creation until they drowned in it. I don't doubt some of these were corporately mandated and the team did the best they could with the resources and people they had, but you can't keep that pace up forever by making twenty people work 80 hour weeks.
