The ships in Battlefleet Gothic are humongous. Completely ridiculous multi mile monstrosities with thousands of people making up the crews. They have enough space for cathedral sized rooms every couple of feet. 40K rarely does anything small, and there's no finer example of this then the space ships.

He's also a massive dick. So sending Chaos towards the imperium fleet to get destroyed is pretty normal for him.

Personally I've always been a big fan of the Deathwatch. The whole, recruted from all manner of other chapters to murder the gently caress out of all the aliens is pretty cool. Plus, it's a really distinctive look. Black, with one silver arm. I'm just sad they never did the Ordo Xenos book when they did the Ordo Malius and Ordo Hereticus

Honestly, it's nice that the Necron's were actually good in something. Because their first table top appearance, while interesting, was mechanically flawed. The whole warp out rule meant that you were forced to take a large number of troops, just to stop your enemy nuking most of your guys and forcing them to phase out. Leaving a lot less points for the more interesting units. As much as I liked the narrative of the Old'Cron I really like the mechanics of the New'Cron. Yes, they're tomb Kings in space. But by that same token, they kinda always were. Given their predilection for Pyramids and having the whole ank symbolism going on. Plus, they're all skeletons. Necrons were always Tomb Kings, it's just they stopped being coy about it and give 'cron's some actual characters so they didn't get poo poo on when it came to the big campaigns GW used to run. I still remember all the other armies getting cool special characters and rules, and the 'crons got nothing. They got a special character in narrative only, who was no different from a normal 'cron lord.

I'm talking specifically that campain they ran around the release of the Eldar update where they brought out the ranger models they're using to this day. Everyone fighting over a planet that was about to get eaten by a warp storm. Can't for the life of me remember what they called it.

I maintain that this is only the case because of how drat easy to paint Marines are compared to a Guardsman or an Eldar Guardian. When I was really into the 'Hams, I loved the IG but bought more Orks and Marines just because the former don't need to be well painted and the latter's troops were big and well defined, therefore easier to paint. Never got the chance to use any of my figures in a game though. :smith:

Also my theory is that this is all a ploy for a good writer to just kill off Rowboat and hopefully the rest of the damned smurfs.

I hope so. It would be so satisfying for them to bring back Gullman, and then get him murdered by something. Like the Necrons, or Tau. Or the Adeptus Mechanicus being led by the awoken Void Dragon. Because that would be far too funny.

Or hell, turn him into a geanstealer hive. Wasn't the first company wiped out defending his stasis locked rear end from a hive fleet?

The Ark Mechanicus in Priests of Mars is a unique (for now) vessel that was unearthed and repaired/reconstructed. There's no real formal Ark Mechanicus class of ships. By default, an Ark is just a very powerful ship with a lot of cool AdMech toys. In PoM's case, it is a unique vessel dating back to at least before the Dark Age of Technology. The toys aboard are not just some of the best the AdMech have but also stuff that far exceeds AdMech stuff.

This is why I love the mechanicus, half the time they're begging toasters to work by praying to them. Then, very rarely, they actually pull out some amazing tech and get it working.

There are Mechanicus Magos who spend their entire lives hunting the universe to find just the blue prints. They send whole drat fleets to go after the constructors and data bases. They've yet to find one that isn't somewhat corrupted and broken. But it has lead to some rather spiffy *new* tech for the impirium. If I recall, one of the flamer tanks the space Marines use came about because they helped the mechanics find a constructor that only had one working design on it.

Point being they're a really big deal. Because they circumvent one of the biggest weaknesses of the imperium. They don't know how half this poo poo works.

The origin story of Trazyn is particularly good.

So, a lot of the reason the newcrons are kind of in a bind is that after a couple million years, there have been some stasis tomb failures. Not to worry, though, the command protocols are pretty clear on the order of succession in the event of failures. If the ruler's not waking up, command falls to their designated heir, if they're not available it goes to the highest ranking general, on and on and on through the pointlessly complex Necron hierarchy.

The crown-world of the Solemnace dynasty, at some point during the intervening couple million years, blew the gently caress up.

And so when the Silent King's call reached out, and the command protocols determined who was the highest-ranking noble remaining, the entire military hierarchy was missing, and so was the all of the noble court. With one exception: the Master Archaeovist of the Galleries of Silence, exiled to his own museum-crypt on the grounds nobody really liked the weirdo.

The YOU CAN'T CUT BACK ON FUNDING THE HISTORY DEPARTMENT, YOU WILL REGRET THIS guy has reacted predictably to the news that the budget committee now consists, in its entirety, of him.

There's been so much history in the last couple million years! Somebody needs to preserve it! And Trazyn knows just the nine-foot-tall undead robot monstrosity with a fleet that can block out suns and an army that uses the shattered fragments of the gods they've broken as pokemon to preserve it good and proper.

Also, as of Fall of Cadia, CREED is now part of his collection.

This is why Trazyn is the best Necron. Because in amongst all these super grim gritty warriors, and the endless war. There needs to be a cackling super villein. Who just brings so much fun to the setting.

It wouldn't surprise me if Trazyn went shopping again, and he brought back a blackstone fortress for shits and giggles. Or sneaks into the imperial palace and nicks the emperor's head. He's just fun, and his inclusion in these super serious matters is great! "Cadia's blowing up? Oh well, BETTER KIDNAP CREED!"

They did already get the Tau fleets. Which I'll admit was a bit of a surprise when there are other, more interesting fleets. Unless they're just simpler to program because all they do is shoot.

It's interesting seeing how quickly theses loses start to snowball. And how Kunning the Orks were in that fight. They got right in and focused fired two of your ships, while one was off dealing with an escort, all the while keeping a whole fresh cruiser back to roll in. If that was a human player I'd applaud their tactics. But when it's the AI it just feels like it's being a dick.
