First: How come you aren't using autocast for your abilities? Since you were planning to board the ship anyway, you could have set boarding on autocast to reduce needless micro. Lock target might also be useful to autocast on escorts. Second, a neat little detail: 40k nerds, look at the crone's shadow to the left at 2:23. Recognizing someone?

Beefeater1980 posted:Don't read Ciaphas Cain until you have read at least a couple of George Macdonald Fraser's Flashman books though. Nah. I didn't read Flashman before reading Ciaphas Cain, and I consider it a good thing. Flashman is an utterly abominable piece of poo poo, and it would have significantly distorted my view of the Cain books. Half their charm comes from embracing the insanity of 40k, and grimdark is a lot easier to laugh at than a dark satire of real stuff that Flashman is.

Technically not an LP, but BigDickCheney on Youtube has the cinematics from all the Dawn of War games uploaded. There's some fun stuff in there. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JW1Yc9ORnsk

In short, the Eye of the Warp is "shallows" of the "ocean" of the Warp. If you randomly jump into the Warp and you're not protected by the "bubble" of a Gellar field, you sink like a rock, "drown", and get eaten by the local wildlife. Chaos-aligned humans are still human enough to want to keep their head above the "water", and even when they take a dive, they prefer to do it in circumstances of their own choice, like when there are no "sharks" around, and it's easy to get a stable footing and "take a breath". Of course, the analogy breaks to some degree since the "ocean" is trying to convince that it's perfectly safe to tie rocks around your feet and dive into the Mariana trench, and is also making you grow tentacles, but you get the point.

If I remember right, there actually was a taunt mechanic in the game, at first, but it was removed because it made winning with the Eldar impossible in multiplayer if the enemy had it and knew how to use it.

My personal favorite stuff kinda-sorta-maybe hinted in the lore is that the Tyranid swarm is a gigantic galaxy eating swarm... that is fleeing for its life from an intergalactic Ork WAAAAGH e: ^^^ Tau have the advantage of being the only faction that has time working in their favor. They're overtaking the Imperium in some regards, and they have a sorta-maybe endgame in establishing contact with all surviving "neutral" xenos to form a pangalactic "gently caress the Imperium" alliance. my dad fucked around with this message at 01:14 on Feb 8, 2017 |

Nope, their plasma tech is straight up more advanced than Imperial tech. Time works in Tau favor because the Tau are growing while the Imperium is shrinking. That's the whole bloody point. They're somewhat comparable to Asimov's Foundation - mercantile imperialist assholes who are somehow* surviving everything the galaxy throws at them despite the odds. Tau travel is about an order of magnitude slower than imperial travel, which is still stupid fast enough for the purposes of reaching out, bonus points for being reliable. It won't ever happen, of course, because the setting is not about the Tau really. *fuckin eldar my dad fucked around with this message at 03:18 on Feb 8, 2017 |

I've seen people launch fighters as the first thing they do in the fight, long before they get close to the enemy, and then put the bombers on autocast. The timing works out in that they take out the first wave of enemy ordnance at just about the time the bombers are ready to launch.

Honestly, if you're doing one of those data missions, it might be best to deactivate boarding autocast and keep your ships close together. That way, if you lose the data, you should have a much easier time getting it back.
