When a drafted player that's only been in the league for 3 seasons with a team has their contract run out, they're a Restricted free agent, and their current team can put a 1st, 2nd or other* round tender on them which is a 1 year deal that's like $3m for a 1st, $2m for a second and $1.5m for other.

However, another team can make that player an offer and then their original club can either match it or give up the listed draft pick as compensation to get the player on that contract.

*Other is the round the player was originally drafted in with some exclusions I forget.

So basically any good player gets a 1st round tender and then nobody signs them to a giant contract because gently caress giving up your 1st round pick.

... we didn't draft gabriel... huh.

Keep polishing that ring... until it falls off the dead hand of Drew Brees and you realize you don't even have a Quarterback anymore.

The Bucs need a good FS and a real #2 WR so hopefully we draft those and not an RB in the first few rounds. I don't care if the Muscle Hamster is back or not I will be almost as mad if we go RB as I was about Second Round Kicker.

3rd/4th rounder for RB imo.

Don't hang your hopes in the backfield on Jaquizz Rodgers. As much as I adore that man, he's barely even a #2.

So is there anyone you're hoping your team drafts this year? Hoping for linebacker or cornerback, but watch Sean pick Deshaun Watson or something else completely out of left field.

I really don't want Fournette to be a Panther just as much as Fiz.

Because we're likely to lose Babs sooner than later and Quinn likes to rotate... we need to draft a Defensive Tackle.

We're weak at guard and could use a high pick on one, and picking at 31, we're likely to be able to get a high quality one, as this position doesn't tend to go high, so quality at the position will still be available.

Cooks was openly complaining last year about not getting enough touches and New Orleans showed with Stills that they're more than willing to trade a talented wide receiver for off the field reasons, so I'd say it's probably true. As long as they get first round value for him I don't mind it. Finding wide receivers for Brees has been one thing the Saints haven't struggled with.

Is that realistic, getting a first for Cooks in trade? How many years are left on his rookie deal/what's his production been like?

I know he's flashed pretty brightly, watching the ATL/NOLA games over the years, but those games are always weirdly high in scoring and production.
