Right, so political outsiders should just wait patiently and quietly for their issues to enter power via some kind of political alchemy, and then and only then unveil their grievances. No protests have ever contributed anything to any political movement, especially ones that are otherwise powerless.

Short of a Russian Revolution (which resulted in the destruction of the old governmental regime), pretty much.

Technocratic revisionism to piss on stuff like strikes, the civil rights movement's more militant parts, anti-war movements, stonewall and so on is like as old as these movements have inconvenienced comfortably milquetoast assholes.

Things like the lunch counter protests and bus boycotts were effective since they caused economic pain to those in power.

Alternatively, having a feel-good march/protest is meaningless when the government has shown time and again that they don't give a flying gently caress what hundreds of thousands or even millions of people think.

And the many rallies, strikes, protests, marches, and other forms of political rabble rousing did nothing to build an opposition political community? The bolsheviks and mensheviks just sprang up out of the ground fully formed, with no previous history of successful political action, including the partially successful 1905 revolution? How exactly do you think these opposition groups built their strength even before they had a shadow of power?

Great turnout at the march in Nashville. No idea on official numbers but I'd guess close to 10k.

Apparently there's going to be no actual march part of the march. Over 700k people came and rising. Much more than expected. The entire route is packed. Good bad news I suppose.

I think this is the first million X March I've seen that actually came close to a million.

To call this march (or , perhaps more correctly, series of marches/rallies) useless it's their own is disingenuous.

My mom went to a smaller march here in Jersey today. She has never been politically active in her whole life (outside of just voting) and all the frustration and sadness she's been feeling since the election compelled her to show up. She texted me this morning to say being with other like minded people was a healing experience and she already feels a bit better. And you never know where it could lead people from there. Maybe someone like my mom attends local meetings. Maybe they read more, and perhaps even run for local positions.

Obviously more action is needed but finding community with other decent people is very cool and good.

Madonna started dropping gently caress bombs on MSNBC and it took them a moment to realize what was going on and cut her off. Then they switched back to her after a couple minutes and the first thing she did was call Donald Trump a dick and they cut her feed again.

That's the problem, the marches are just the step up from slacktivism. Everyone going out on the town for a Saturday to feel validated then go home and not care for the next 4 years because they did their part.
