Two major changes are a) the dragon engine could never render enough people to accurately show the crowds and b) far fewer ladies approach kiryu on the street to ask if he wants to get jacked off

Otherwise it’s pretty much 1:1

Also, this is definitely the river and two bridges they used for Sotenbori, but I think they flipped the map 180 degrees. The game's bridges are in opposite positions from the real ones, and the real street with all the restaurants is on the south side of the river.

I found a bunch of places in kabukicho just by memory of kamurocho it’s a very surreal feeling.

Don Quijote especially is pretty much exactly where it’s supposed to be.

It is mindbending to watch that video and think "I bought porn for a kid in that alley!" "I remember helping out someone in those bathrooms by giving them pocket tissues." "I fought on the roof of that building"

For those who don't want to watch a video and just want to look at pictures, someone made a comparison album on Imgur a while back: https://imgur.com/gallery/sIa0CD7
There are a handful of the images where I had to do a double take to see which one was the real Kabukicho location.

"Ah," Ratz had said, at last, "the artiste."
I planned to play Fallout 4 when the big update hit but I got the bug and started replaying Yakuza 7: Like A Dragon on the steam deck and its...pretty good! Some random thoughts:

-Adachi is a pretty strong driving force in the plot early on, I kind of forget that when he literally just becomes 'random friend who is never in the party because he has mediocre stats' in the back half of YLAD7 and most of YLADIW. It's cool to remember that oh, he's actually a really good detective and has a whole arc at first.
-the turn-based combat is so nothing for the first couple chapters of the game. you literally have one special move and no gear for the first like, three hours. I get that they're easing you into it but goddamn!

Adachi laughing at Ichiban when his hair gets jacked up by the hair stylist is the second-best moment in Y7.

The best moment is Ichiban biting into the prison bread roll and it breaks apart exactly like a real bread roll would wow it's great animation!

i have no idea why the deck takes such low res screenshots, but I had to grab one of the Millennium Tower being built, as well as ichiban's terrible 90s haircut:

and lol that ichiban is scowling in the first game, i already miss his dumbass grin from infinite wealth:

and hey, you fight these two guys in the graveyard for some reason. they both die after one attack and pull a gun in the cutscene afterwards anyway, but i guess RGG felt the need to break up half an hour of cutscenes with a quick nothing of a fight:

i forget when you actually get a cell phone in-game so i can perpetuate my love of terrible selfies, but its gotta be pretty soon after getting out of prison, right?

i was also hoping to grab some candid shots of Ichiban's post-prison ponytail, but it only exists in cutscenes for about five minutes. also its really weird how he has a shaved head for the first 15 years of prison and then really long hair for the last three. i assume its just a mistake but because it happens right after the most lovingly rendered bread of all time it really catches you off guard

How's Infinite Wealth? Half thinking of picking it up for 30% off, and I really liked Like A Dragon but the relatively simple combat system got tiring by the 2/3rds mark for me. I'm pretty sure the plot and especially the sub stories are going to be great like series tradition at least, plus the latest major minigame(s).

Basically I definitely wanna Infinite Wealth at some point, just not sure if I want to pull the trigger now or later (maybe with a bigger sale if I'm lucky). I'm doing Unicorn Overlord, Eiyuden, and just finished P3R, got SMTV:V upcoming, so.......

The combat is a lot better and imo much more engaging but it's a pretty mid plot despite a lot of emotional moments.

The Deck's native resolution is 1280x800, so generally you're not going to get high resolution screenshots. These seem like they should be 720p but are missing a few lines of pixels on each axis for some reason.

not been keeping up with the thread, have you played the other kiryu games? if so then IW is a good emotional capstone gutpunch to be played as soon as you have capacity for a vast dumb sprawling supergame; if you're still working through them or do not plan to play them then yeah, hold off for a bigger sale

i'll kinda go against Ghostlight here and say that if you overall enjoyed the plot of Y7/LAD then IW is not that far off-- it's not Y0, it is a mid plot from a franchise perpective but that's a high bar so still v enjoyable imo

the combat system is much improved, but it is more of a correction of Y7's problems than it is any sort of evolution in mechanics

The combat is vastly improved from 7 but the plot conversely is not as good. There are also a low number of substories for a yakuza game

oh 100% mid in terms of the franchise, and like by plot i mean the conspiracy stuff that happens. the character stories and stuff inside are great, i just felt there was like one good twist and everything else was real predictable.

tbh I've found the story kinda boring. It's just paced really poorly and while there's been some good moments (we haven't quite finished yet, in the end game right now) the game has sort of overstayed it's welcome for me

The gameplay is way better and the characters are great, I love the little random skits you get. I wish they didn't just instantly let you complete the "getting to know you" skits though, because it makes it too tempting to just bee-line all of them and then you get nothing more outside of the random skits you stumble across. The lack of substories is also disappointing.

I like the game but, outside of the gameplay, it's a downgrade from 7 imo.

Harrow

At the tail end of Judgment, I have one thing about the story that I wish was a little different: I sorta wish the story wasn't so abundantly clear that AD-9 is never going to work, no matter how hard Shono tries. It could've added some interesting ambiguity to the story if it was a genuinely promising drug but being developed in a monstrously unethical way.

Ultimately still a really good story, though. I just think that would've added a little extra dimension to it.

Chapter 10 of Yakuza 7 is giving me awful flashbacks to the bit in 3 where you had to spend half an hour listening to a politician explain the plot.

At least this one gives you breaks to save every ten minutes if you need to step away.

edit: Joon-gi Han, you do not get to insert your K-pop star looking rear end into my party and then not have a karaoke song, that's not how we roll here!

Okay, I was apparently one cutscene away from getting a cell phone. Selfie mode engaged

Also there's really nothing to do in Kamurocho in YLAD7 before the very end of the game. Not even karaoke! So I just spent way too much time fighting Dragon Engine physics to win at the crane game (getting the jumbo bun is loving impossible)

Ichiban's cooler full of energy drinks is much better than FFVIIR's random park bench as a stand-in for the RPG full-heal campfire imho

There are like two parts of Chp 2 that aren't just long cutscenes so I had to snap a quick pic from the rooftop next to the Chinese restaurant that you never visit again

And finally, Ichiban in his homeless era, maybe my favorite part of YLAD7 and the closest it hews towards meaningful social commentary. I love his completely filthy purple suit lol
