Excited to play this video game. It's a shame the best character and secret protagonist of the series Akiyama isn't in it though.

Bought the game off PSN, got it all downloaded and installed and ready to go. Now I just have this little countdown timer mocking me.

The PS4's "play the first part of the game before it's done downloading" feature hasn't panned out at all.

It works pretty well sometimes. I used it with Mortal Kombat X and NBA 2K16 I remember. It works better if there's a stripped down mode (essentially quick match/play now for both titles I mentioned), but it seems OK. It just doesn't let you break street date is all.

So I booted up the game and after some cutscenes and tutorial fights a strange man in a bowler hat taught me how to inject cash into my body to gain martial powers.

This is a good video game, I think.

The nice thing about the new cash as XP feature is that they didnt change the prices on the things that used to cost money so you basically never have to think about cash when you are bowling or buying your staminan x or what have you.

You know any good entertainment experience will teach you something about yourself and what I have learned about myself in the three hours I have played is this: I am Bad At Disco. Never would have had the opportunity to learn that without this game.

I love the sub stories in this one. I just helped some kid get his copy of Dragon Quest 3 that his father stole (??) and lifecoached a yankee band on how to be super huge posers. I only have like 4 hours logged but it is already my favorite Yakuza. It has social links. Social Links!

I tell you, the final mission and cliffhanger of the first Majima section/chapter 4 is probably my favorite part of the series. That's good story. And then they gave me the realty system and Kiryu's story has so far come to a screeching halt for seven hours. I am up to $130M a run. I like the realty system.

When facing Mr Shakedown as Majima, I just kept running away from him just enough to trigger his running grab attack. If you dodge it you can get it three weapon shots basically risk free as he recovers and then run away again. Takes a fair bit of time but is functionally risk free if you don't get greedy. You can do it with Slugger's bat too so ypu dont have to pay for weapons, but its slower.

You know what would be cool is if the game had an iPhone/Droid companion like GTA5 and Assassins Creed and so forth had. Both businesses and the weapon agent system would be perfect for that, and you could tie it to your psn and get your money in the real game.

Big thank you to whomever mentioned the Zap Gun as the key to Mr Shakedown fights. I am farming him as Majima because I don't particularly care for the cabaret minigame and it is both simple and hilarious to have a giant man challenge you to a fist fight, run around shooting him in the chest, and then get 60 million yen.

However I am annoyed with the weapon agents. I have sent the Spy (best available agent) to Area 51 like 6 times with millions of extra yen and have yet to hit that 40% chance of him finding the cannon.

I know its because of gameplay and all but I love that (Chapter 9 spoilers)the yakuza are willing to send dudes into every bar and arcade, firebomb Kiryu's apartment, and have a hundred guys patrol the streets, but don't bother to have even one dude sit outside his place of business and pick him up when he comes by.

Finally finished the game, ended up marathoning from Chapter 11 through the credits without doing any side mission stuff. I know at this point I should expect a Yakuza game's back third to be unexpected connections and betrayals but man, that's a good crime story. 5 may still be my favorite to play, but this has the best Yakuza story by a mile IMO.
