The final Rush training was a little insane. It wasn't super hard, if you can keep your opponent on camera. The insane bit is that every shot that you dodge is hitting one of the people that have gathered around to block your view of the fight!

You pass the training even if you get hit, as long as it doesn't kill you outright.

I thought I was half decent in this game until I hit a brick wall with Ultimate Battle 2. Going up against three bosses in a row with Majima has been kicking my rear end.

I feel like Majima in general has a really hard time with enemies that block, at least without using Heat actions. If you're in Thug style you can grab but that takes forever, and don't ask me how the hell you're supposed to break through in Breaker style.

Bat style's nunchucku thing with the bat itself murders the gently caress out of people who try to block, especially if you unlocked the ability to make that move last longer.

That works fine in normal fights but in Climax battles it takes way too much time. I was having trouble with 2-6 (the Breaker melee battle) anyway. Thanks for the tip, though; that move is indeed really good

Unfortunately everything past the point of no return in the story is considered a "blocked scene" by the PS4's Share function, so it can't be recorded without other hardware.

They also reuse a lot of fictional areas for set piece Battles like Tojo HQ, Kamurocho Hills, Millennium Tower, the Okinawa arena, etc. I do appreciate this because every level designer and artist not spending time designing a new area is a person free to work on new and exciting ways for Kiryu to destroy a man's bones.

At least in the final battle of 3, when Kiryu sent someone to the ER, it was a short trip, and possibly literal as well as figurative.

I'd be alright if a new Yakuza game just had a pandering American character named Marty Hamilton that was modeled after and performed by Mark Hamill.

Hamilton is a surviving member of Black Monday who left the country to try and rebuild the organization before challenging Kiryu, so he would not throw away his...shot.

Content: I would kinda like to see Black Monday come back in some form, maybe as a subplot in the online game. It's not like the franchise's US fan base would really care about the unsubtle ultra-nationalism associated with that particular plot thread, and I really enjoyed the Wesker-wannabe from 3.

Really digging the new translation. I know it's a twelve year old script but the Atlus folks did a stellar job squeezing every inch of life and character out of it. Although I did miss "I did feel like hitting a few balls today"[spoiler] in chapter 6, I immediately followed up that story scene with the bar tab collection and its reference to [spoiler]"when you don't pay your debt, I'm what you get" and all was well.

Dead Souls would be a lot more tolerable if its gameplay mechanics were janky in the charming, Yakuza way, not the frustrating, unpolished way we got. There's a few Kiryu substories where you have to escort NPCs to the exit of the quarantine zone, but the thing is they don't die at 0 health, they just start limping really slowly, and you still have to drag their asses to the exit or you can't leave at all. To add insult to injury, the game still counts them as dead and you get a worse reward for the substory.

At least we'll always have Shotgun Majima.

Just got a PS4 as a gift and have been wanting to get into this series for approximately forever. Kiwami is a good/sensible place to start, right, being that it's actually the first game?

I would strongly recommend starting with 4 if you have a PS3, 0 if you don't. Both games are good natural starting points, 4 because it introduces new characters and has recaps of the earlier titles, and 0 because there's not as much relevant backstory to worry about. Don't bother hunting down the PS2 games (since remakes now exist) or 3 (the only real contribution the story makes to the canon is killing off a minor character from 1 and 2).

Don't worry, I'll never get past this loving pool shark. Last time he won the break shot, sunk eight or so balls before he hosed up an easy shot and basically handed the 8-14 to me. All I had to do was pocket the 15, and the game registered me nudging the right stick slightly as a shot so Kiryu took the world's shittiest, tiniest shot and I lost for like the twentieth time.

I would kill myself or something, but if you're talking self harm nothing is gonna compare to trying to 100% a Yakuza game.
