Stein, Maestro D'

"Mmmhmm", Stein hummed his agreement to whatever Ducky was on about. Even if the music wasn't blaring so loud, he'd probably not be able to make out what he was slurring anyway. Ducky got talkative when drunk, but always peaceful. Unlike the fucker at the edge of the mosh pit who had been trying to find someone who would bite on his trouble-seeking antics for a while now. Stein had been watching him and so had Bounce, even if he was leaning in the entranceway seemingly super chill.

"Sssshtaain, gimme another", Ducky yelled over the music. "You had enough for tonight", he responded as he reached over to grad the empty cup from Ducky. His mouth agape, Ducky sought for an argument to make for getting another drink, but his brain failed him. So he sat there, mouth agape, head softly bopping back and forth, hoping to catch some thought flying about. Stein watched bemusedly.

Then it happened faster than he or Bounce could react. That fucker had finally found someone to pick a fight with. The starting shoving each as Bounce ploughed his way through the packed crowd. Unfortunately, one of the guys had backup, grabbing the troublemaker by the arms. The other guy had some things to say to him before spitting on him and winding up for a big punch. Stein turned off the music. The regulars knew this meant trouble and made way for Bounce to quash it. The crowd followed him with their eyes.

The tense silence lasted only seconds before it was broken by a primal scream of pain. Bounce had grabbed the guy's arm mid-windup and now was twisting it behind his back with one hand. His other hand pointed at the guys holding the troublemaker, then to the door. They knew better than to pick a fight with the 6'6", 300 pound bouncer and scrammed. Bounce grabbed the troublemaker, too, for good measure and dragged the two out of the Beer Pit.

As they neared the entrance, Stein turned the music back up. He preferred not to know what Bounce did exactly to get rid of people like this; he did and that what counted for Stein. As the guitars wailed and the double bass pounded, Stein poured a cup of beer. Ducky's hand reached over the bar, trying to grab it, but Stein slowly pulled it away from him. Ducky protested, but Stein took a big sip for himself. He nodded towards the door. He couldn't hear what exactly Ducky was muttering in protest, but his body language made clear he had given up for tonight.

Stein took a good look around. The crowd had gone back to dancing, to drinking, to trying to chat over the deafening rock songs of yesteryear, seemingly unfazed by the interruption moments ago. Ducky had slid of his stool and was shuffling towards the exit. Bounce came back inside with a satisfied smile on his face. A cool nod towards Stein said he had dealed with the four shitstirrers. Stein nodded back, took another sip, wiped the foam from his mustache, and bopped his head with the music. Just another night in the Beer Pit.

Stein has been living in Throne before it was the cool place to be. He even remembers it used to be called another name, but nobody cares about that these days. Everybody is too busy to chase after and fighting over this or that - few people remember how to chill. That's why he opened the Beer Pit in an abandoned basement: to have a place to kick back and relax, forget about the troubles above and let off some steam in the mosh pit to the hard riffs of yesteryear. A shelter from chaos and the weirdness of this world, a memorial to lost peace and innocence.

The brewing storm concerns Stein. He wants peace above all else and it seems that things are going to get worse instead. He will try to keep his little sanctuary safe for the time being. If he had to throw in his lot with any faction, he'd support one that shows the most promise to restore peace and sanity.

He's heard a lot of good things about the Ministry of Tranquility lately. While he's not very inclined towards religious stuff, these guys seem to have their mind in the right place, rejecting the struggle, chaos, and weirdness of the new world. Word is they had some success establishing some small communities that shelter and protect their members from the warlords and the maelstorm. They may not have the power base to make a real go at expanding their influence into Throne yet, but their "preachers" have become a more and more regular sight in the city as of late.
