We're in Maui on vacation and I've come across many critters! Myna bird. They're everywhere and very chatty. This was outside our hotel room. It's a baby fish thing! Found in a swimming hole off the road to Hana. Found several of these guys hanging out by the same pool mentioned above. Not sure if they're feral or belong to locals, but some of them were super friendly. Others not so much. Small Asian Mongoose. Waianapanapa State Park. Bunch of em. Invasive species introduced in the late 1800's to fight the rats. Only problem is rats are nocturnal and the mongoose are diurnal. Bad news for local bird populations. Millipede(?) in the same park. Red-crested cardinal. Very interested in fighting the myna birds over bread and other scraps. A gecko? I think? Found in the Old Lahaina Prison. Same as above except green! Dolphins off of Molokini crater. Pretty sure they're bottlenose. Frigate birds. Also at Molokini crater.

I found a tiny little bunny? Rabbit? Also a (I think) Pileated Woodpecker. He was lower, but by the time I grabbed my camera, he'd gone farther up the tree, and I don't have a great zoom on my lense.

Here are some distant, bad photos of some critters on the trail at Salt Water State Park in WA. Our dogs made it difficult to get close (duh). All identification is an assumption and not guaranteed to be correct. Nothing very exciting, but there's not much at a small park south of Seattle. The hummingbirds and robins were too far away to photograph with my camera. Steller's Jay Gray Squirrel(?) Species: 700 or 800 Genus: 737 Family: Boeing

Went on a hike today. Didn't see much (mostly other hikers' dogs) and most of what I did see flew off too quickly to get a shot of. I did get the wood pecker. He waddled to the other side of the tree when I got too close. There was also this little chipmunk: She was obviously used to humans, and wanted me to toss some food. I did not (nut shells don't count, right?)

Apologies for the photodump. Saw some critters today on a hike at Mt Rainier: Golden-mantled ground squirrel. Not unexpectedly demanding of food from passers by. Cute, but really wish people would listen and not feed them. Pretty sure this is a common raven. He was a very large corvid in alpine terrain where crows are much less common. I wish I was able to get closer and take better pictures of this fellow. Every time I tried to get close, he'd just sashay behind some rocks. Mountain goat. I have a blurry, zoomed in photo, but this is the best I got. My favorite, the hoary marmot. These were everywhere. We even saw two fighting on the hike down.
