And yes I do mean every single one. That does not include the DS or 3DS games. We'll be focusing on the main games. 1 thru 10. Now then, everyone knows what these games are known for. The original for messing up peoples palms, so much so that Nintendo made a glove to send to people who played the game. But it's known more for destroying relationships. Truly, this series has become known as the Monopoly of video games. And rightfully so. I know I've caused many fights, and gotten unnecessarily angry at people while playing it. So what better than a married couple to play all of them?

For anyone who doesn't know what Mario Party is, it's a series of party games for 1 to 4 players. Everyone picks a beloved Mario character and takes turns walking around a board to collect coins and stars. The winner is the one with the most stars after a set amount of turns. But of course, it's not always easy. Bowser is trying to stop you, and there are plenty of ways to screw over the other players. After every turn, you play mini-games and really it's just a lot of fun. Of course, the latter entries have kind of changed and I haven't met a lot of people who have really liked them. But we'll get to that later.

We have completed an LP of Mario Party Advance which is you can find here.

The Let's Play

Me and my wife, Callifornia2, will be playing each and every board in each Mario Party. We will also show off any bonus stuff the games hold. We each have our own favourite entry and would like to know which games are your favourites. I would like for this thread to stay as civil as possible.

We will be playing with an easy and a hard computer so this could really go either way for us. We switched the hard CPU to normal because Mario Party 2 was destroying us inside. Also. Mini-game explanations will be turned off and speed will be put up to maximum. Updates will be once week. Each main update will be half of a board so plan on this going on for quite a while. I will be keeping track of the number of coins and total stars each of us get and those standings will be at the bottom of this post. If anyone would like to keep track of more detailed stats I am more than happy to include them as well.

Also try your hand at wining some stars! After part 1 airs, and you have 10 turns to see how things are going, take a guess on who will win. You can include your reasoning as well. If you're right you'll get a nice shiny new power star. Guessers and stars will be bellow just underneath the standings. HAVE FUN!

I'm glad you're enjoying it so far. Our conversations will change a lot over the course of the games. Sometimes we'll talk a lot about the game. Sometimes we'll just talk about life and whats going on. Anything to really kill the desire to rage at things. And I realize I could get a save with it unlocked. But I feel like that takes away from it a bit. I'm using an emulator since I just don't currently have a means to record N64 games otherwise. We have since recording found a solution to the problem.

Bowser is clearly just miss understood. He doesn't want to be bad. But the way he's been treated has forced his hand. Now not even parties are safe from his negative goals.

Warmal
Aug 12, 2011

That is incredibly incredible. If only I had the foresight to play as Luigi instead of Yoshi! Then I'd win every game for sure. I'll make sure to try it anyway though. You never know what may happen.

Warmal
Aug 12, 2011

Also. The games do have a bit of strategy to them. It's supposed to just be picked up and played, and you really can do that in this games case, but knowing how it plays before hand does help. Whether it's smart to try and hoard coins, or rush to the star. Its kind of like Monopoly in that there is no real right way to play.

Like Jobbo_Fett said, you can know what you're doing but sometimes things just don't work out. And with how you can steal coins and stars in this game things can change rather quickly.

Ultimately the game can be hard. And a lot of people don't like that part of it. Computers cheat. They really do.

I'd say the games are for anyone as long as you go in with the right mindset and not play with people who are jerks.

I know this seems like a non answer but it's kind of hard to describe it. As for it looking like we're losing... you'll have to see what happens.

Warmal
Aug 12, 2011

I personally have not played a Mario Party drinking game. I can imagine a lot of potential though. I mean a lot of opportunity to drink for different events. A good one would be taking a drink every time you lost coins.

Warmal
Aug 12, 2011

From my experience, that wouldn't bring in a lot drinks. Maybe finish your drink every time someone rides the train.

Warmal
Aug 12, 2011

That'd be a good one. If I wasn't worried about the videos devovling into complete anarchy and possible even mess up recordings I would absolutely enact a drinking game. That and we tend to record a lot all at once so it could possible go extremely poorly.

Now let's get this party started back up. We conclude the first board of our grand adventure today. And the results may be surprising.

DK's Jungle Adventure - Part 2

Warmal
Aug 12, 2011

It's actually rather surprising how much Calli will burp on recordings. It's not like it's planned. It just always seems to happen.

We will be trying to keep up the sweetness throughout this game. Will we succeed? I don't know. We're not done recording it.

Warmal
Aug 12, 2011

The first game so far has been pretty civil. But it's also just the beginning. I went into this thinking we'd be pretty kind to each other. Love does that. I don't want to hurt my wife. But I mean. There's 10 whole games to get through.

Warmal
Aug 12, 2011

It's especially bad for us. We're both rather decent at Mario Kart. So it's a toss up on which of us will win. It get's pretty heated pretty quickly.

Warmal
Aug 12, 2011

Welp. I suppose we'll have to see how long we can hold off that urge to screw each other over. It's definitely a lot easier in the first game. There are no items, so aside from Boo there isn't really a way to target each other. And thus far, it's been more beneficial to target the computers because the hard computers in the first game are actually rather competent. My prediction is that slowly through 2-8 we'll be taking jabs at each other more and more. And then 9-10 will basically just be random due to the nature of those games.

Warmal
Aug 12, 2011

Double posting because I had a pretty relevant short twitter conversation last night.

This is pretty accurate to this series.

Warmal

Would anyone be interested if we upped these uodates to once a week? My thought process was that itd get repetetive and boring if people tried to watch mario party weekly. But if you dont think itd get burnt out we'll update it more often.

Warmal
Aug 12, 2011

Well. If I increase to one update a week, from what I have recorded we should be good for 11 weeks.

Warmal
Aug 12, 2011

What do you mean we should have started with this board first? If that's the case it should have started on this board!

Mario's Rainbow Castle - Part 1

Warmal
Aug 12, 2011

That is 100% what I meant by one of them being different. If I'm remembering correctly the leader goes first and then all of the others follow, and the first time most of them are in sync and then it slowly goes out of sync. So you're best bet is to catch it right away.

Honestly? gently caress the mine cart mini game in both Mario Party 1 and 2. As you said, the track is rigged and the computers are mostly near impossible to defeat if there is at least 1 hard.

Warmal
Aug 12, 2011

I'd also like to take this time to add in something new. I'd like to know who everyone thinks is going to win!

I'll add this to the part 1 posts from here on. But basically, from the 10 turns you've seen, who do you think is on the path to winning? You don't need to, but I would also like to see your reasoning. Maybe you see someone using a lot of coins pretty soon, or someone is just too far in the lead to really fall behind without shenanigans. Basically. The ones who get it right will be added to the OP with a nice star beside their name every time they're right. Maybe we'll incorporate this a little more later.

Who Do You Think Will Win!!!!!???!!!

Warmal
Aug 12, 2011

I'm certain I'll be changing characters too. I just don't know when and where quite yet. I'll probably stick to playing as the character I played as most during my time with each game.

Warmal
Aug 12, 2011

Now that you mention it. I have some fond memories as Waluigi in Mario Party 4. May need to break him out for that one.

Warmal
Aug 12, 2011

And here comes the end of Mario's board. I think it's meant to be an easy tutorial like stage, but the switching between Toad and Bowser kind of makes it a crazy stressful board. You're racing to the end, but then suddenly you're hoping to move as slow as possible as you see death on the horizon.

Mario's Rainbow Castle - Part 2

Those that guessed right will now have a star beside their name in the OP! To those that didn't, thanks for guessing and I hope you get it right next time.

Warmal
Aug 12, 2011

As bullshit as chance time is. It's still a vital part of the original games. I like that it's both a test of skill and luck. You have to plan out which blocks to hit in what order. And usually the first block you can guarantee what you get. Usually.

Warmal
Aug 12, 2011

We will eventually get there! I'm glad you're enjoying it so much. So fun little thing here. We've now moved on to the next board, Peach's Birthday Cake, and coincidentally today is actually Calli's birthday. I did not plan this at all.

Peach's Birthday Cake Part 1

Also! You know the drill. We've got ten turns, so you've got half a board now to take a stab at who's going to win.

Warmal
Aug 12, 2011

Everything you just said is my thoughts exactly. IF Nintendo does anything the other companies have been doing then suddenly they are doing the worst thing ever? It's a complete double standard that is absolutely horrendous. Every company has been doing gimmicky things since the mid 2000's. Sony made that Playstation Eye, Microsoft did the Kinect. It's an extremely gross thing going on in the market right now.
For what it's worth. We've had little success from peeling ourselves away from the Switch. I'm really excited for the upcoming titles, but am happy with the 3 titles I have right now that I wanted/could afford.
Calli says you get her and should be friends.

We had thought about bringing in other people to join us, but the problem with that was first of all finding friends that would play. And secondly, trying to schedule recording enough and often enough to keep a steady stream of updates. Unfortunately it didn't pan out. *whispers: we have a friend*

Remember when Nintendo announced a pretty standard, if not subdued, DLC plan for BotW and the internet lost its poo poo? Every other AAA game has 10 separate exclusive pre-order bonuses, a season pass, multiple Day 1 DLC items, cosmetic DLC and microtransactions and that's all well and expected.

This is absolutely true for all of them except Mario 3D World. That one is actually more fun with more people. But I suppose that isn't technically a Mario Bros. game.

Also. I absolutely forgot how the minigame house worked in this one. I don't think any other Mario Party does the minigames in this fashion. And it's kind of weird if you think about it. I suppose they wanted something for you to spend your coins on.

I would have loved to see that. As long as the dogs are comfortable, I love seeing them in costumes. Teddy did not like his last costume as much as it covered his head a bit. So we had to have the hood back.

Warmal
Aug 12, 2011

I do like the idea of trying to change things up to keep all the players engaged. But at the end of a game of Mario Party 9 and 10, I just feel like I haven't really played the game. We also find that the computers are just way more difficult in those ones. 10 is at least better than 9 is. But I still just want to feel like I played the game. Not a quarter of the game. I have very little memory of 3, so we'll get there when we get there. I do remember not liking the whole aesthetic as much.

Time for an Update!

Yoshi's Tropical Island Part 1

Since we now have ten turns of gameplay, it's time for everyone to take your guess on who is going to win. Last board a lot of people got it right. Will everyone do as good this week? Also I blatantly lie in the beginning of this one. This board is in fact not my least played, I just actually forgot about my truly least played.

Warmal
Aug 12, 2011

Our dog also likes to break the blinds on the window as he's looking out of them. And it's only ever when we're not here that this happens.
