These are all fine points. And i can not claim what people may or may not deal with that might make any interaction or search difficult. Aside from a three second story of, "this happened go me." I dont hold any thought or resentment to those people. The ones that truly cause problems are the self entitled people.

Or the ones that get pissed off at me the 15 year old about issues they have with corporate. Or the "i didnt look" response i got a lot of the time.

I work in a print shop now so I can relate to that a lot. Especially for large prints. Yes, if you get a 4x8 foot banner it's going to cost a ton and takes more than a minute to print.

So looking at the length of the Mini-Game Island, it would be a really long video. Probably even longer than a whole board. I'd like to know if anyone would prefer it being a single long video, or break it down into two smaller chunks for quicker viewing.

You say that like I have a video editor that allows me to edit without completely destroying the video.

So now we go to war! Not, Calli and I. It's just the new board. Update is: We have not gotten a divorce yet.

Wario's Battle Canyon Part 1

This may be my least favourite of the main six boards. We talk about it a lot. But just the random landing points kind of make it a little intolerable.

But now that we have 10 Turns. Everyone can now Bet on who is going to win!

Is that an actual thing? I know AI was changed per character a bit for Mario Party 2. But I haven't heard anything like that for the first one.

Warmal
Aug 12, 2011

That's fair. And AI is always cheating. But I've never seen AI cheat as much as it did in Mario Party 9. We'll get there when we get there though.

I'd like to know everyone's thoughts on Wario's Battle Canyon. I think it's clear we don't enjoy it too much. But maybe that's just us.

If I wasn't forced to go from island to island. I'd be able to stay on one and just wait for the star to come by. Even if this was what they didn't want, it'd at least mean that I had paid attention enough to notice the star going in a set pattern.

Even with the difficulty that is mini and mega mushrooms, I really enjoy the boards, minigames, and aesthetic that Mario Party 4 holds. Unfortunately, we're not playing that right now. We're playing Wario's Battle Canyon. Which doesn't get any better.

Man, what a finish. Is it possible to get two stars on the same turn or do they always spawn that far apart?

Later entries in the series definitely made it more possible for this to happen. Only the last couple of installments made it even more difficult than now though.

So we have a bit of a different thing this week. It's our first bonus board. As such, it's only going to be one video. But that doesn't mean you don't get a vote. The bonus videos that have computer players will always have them set to "Normal." So, without seeing the first ten turns.

WHO WILL WIN THE BONUS BOARD?
Take your guess between:
Michael / Yoshi
Calli / Peach
Computer / Mario - Luigi

You only need to guess computer, not which computer, as they are the same difficulty they will be one entity in this.
Guessing right doesn't net you a star, but it will add something beside your name in the OP.

And now we descend into a pot(?) in order to reach the MINI GAME STADIUM. A really cool special board for those who don't feel like playing mini games for no reason, but also don't feel like playing a full game of Mario Party. I have fond memories of watching my character slowly rise up on the pile of coins. It's a nice little thing they added in. It wasn't really necessary to put this but they did and it's fun.

Also. Preface. We've had complaints in another thread about us talking too much about ourselves, so if you're really against that, I suggest skipping this video. If you're fine with that though enjoy!

I dont want to derail the thread on it. This is literally just how we are when we play video games. And it seems to be something people enjoy. We'rr informative when need be, otherwise we're a regular married couple. Putting a mic in front of us while playing games is one of the easiest transitions we had.

But anyway. Whats everyones take on the Mini Game Stadium? I find it weird that its in a pot, but id really like to see something more like this brought back in the series.

I would say maybe the Minigame Stadium was a practice board for them, but they did make the Sonic party game before hand. Maybe it was a new designer who didnt know thry were supposed to make it as frustrating as possible.

Update!
And here we go with the next board. We'll be finishing up the newly wed game, as well as finishing up our first recording session all together. Now that I've played through this board, I actually enjoy it a lot more than I did when I was a kid. I see why my younger self had gotten frustrated with it. But in hindsight, it isn't all that bad. Nothing like Wario's stage anyway.

Luigi's Engine Room Part 1

This also means it is now time to GUESS WHO WILL WIN!!!!

Will it be the lovable Michael/Yoshi, the beautiful Calli/Peach, the cunning Hard Computer Mario, or the ruler of the previous board Wario? You have until Tuesday night to get your votes in.

Warmal
Aug 12, 2011

But at least the gimmick this time isn't incredibly frustrating. I like that the board forces you past the boo every time. I don't think any other board really makes you see Boo no matter what. So it's interesting how the later half will play out with the large amount of coins.

Thank you all for getting your votes in. I don't want to sound discouraging, but I'm not sure you got it this time, White Coke. But against all mechanical odds, we have survived the engine room. Interesting that the Mario Brothers are on opposite sides of the board list. Also, this marks the end of our first recording session, so next time should be a little treat for everyone. It was for me.

Glazius posted:

So what's the next thing you're looking forward to, in terms of the grand sweep of Mario Party?

Personally, I hope they get rid of the car mechanic. I think there are better ways to keep every player engaged, rather than having everyone only play a quarter of the game. Wii Party U proves that there as still people at Nintendo that can make fun minigames. And since I imagine the next title will be out on the Switch, 1, 2, Switch shows that the Joycons can make for interesting controllers in that regard as well. We had a lot of fun with it. I would like them to go back to an actual board game like design, as that's what Mario Party is to me. With interesting bonus boards as well. It's a series that works well on the system they developed, and it wasn't until they started trying to do some drastic changes around Mario Party 7 that I think I started losing interest. If they do have to take the series in a different direction again, it at least still needs to feel like Mario Party, because right now, MP 9 and 10 don't feel like Mario Party.

Warmal
Aug 12, 2011

The creators stated that they made that change because the found players were not engaged when it wasn't there turn. They would stop paying attention and probably do other things. So to keep everyone engaged they put everyone in a car so that you need to pay attention to know what to do. Unfortunately, this also meant that the computers had an incredibly easy time winning as it's a computer system. RNG just doesn't seem to matter when the computer can calculate the best move even on Easy mode.

Warmal
Aug 12, 2011

Or to have happening spaces that require the others paying attention. Or have board mechanics that require input from other players. There are a lot of solutions, and hopefully we don't rag on it too hard when we get there.

Bowser's Magma Mountain Part 1

Things look a little different around here. Big shout out to everyone who helped me get recording from the N64 working, it saved us a lot of trouble. That said, we are starting to get to the end of this game. I slowly started to remember the Bowser board. I feel like Mario Party 2 did it better, but no one is surprised there.

GUESS WHO WILL WIN
We have 10 turns everyone, that should be more than enough to figure out who is going to win. Probably. Michael, Calli, Easy, or Hard computer? There's only three more guesses for all of Mario Party 1 so make it count.

Warmal
Aug 12, 2011

I know it's supposed to be square, it's just weird that things don't actually look weird. If I could edit it back to 4:3 I actually would though, just to keep it more true to what it should be.

Warmal
Aug 12, 2011

It's a board that is meant to streamline you to no coins, meaning you more or less get sent to Bowser. They didn't make this level to give you any favours, but I'm sure it could have been made fun.

Warmal
Aug 12, 2011

I didn't play much of Star Rush. I don't remember really having any fun with it. I feel like even if I had a way to record from the 3DS, I would still choose not to show off that one.

Warmal
Aug 12, 2011

Its not a bad thing for the series to branch out. But when you start losing what it means for a game to be Mario Party then it should probably be its own seperate game. Even if the franchise ends, thats alright. I didnt mind Star Rush as a game, but i dont enjoy it as a Mario Party. Its just hard to seperate the two when they share a title.

Warmal
Aug 12, 2011

I think Mario Party would work really well on the Switch. Being able to take the game everywhere while having the power of a full console rather than a hand held? All the yes. Especially since 1,2, Switch was such a party driven game. It only makes sense to do something with it. As long as they don't do something crazy again. Going back to the car thing. To begin with, taking turns is such a non issue. I haven't seen a single person get bored during the other three very quick turns. But the solution they came up with just creates an issue. It's like playing a game of snakes and ladders, with only one piece, and the winner is just whoever ends up finishing the game.

Warmal

UPDATE TIME

So we finish off Bowser for good this time. Or do we? We're getting so close to the end of this game I can taste it. This board is very draining and probably wouldn't be so bad if it was either shorter, or less red spaces appear from the happening space.
