din connectors were standard on a lot of audio gear in the 70s and 80s. so the connectors and cables were cheap and easily available, both to manufacturers and to users who needed to make all the weird cables their computers needed

i found a forum post from 2008 where the seller (if its the same guy) claims to have 50 of them, so if they're selling three a year i'd be surprised
