It is one of the most bafflingly bad games I have ever played in a way that's hard to explain without sounding like a lunatic. It was made by two, maybe three people, and the only sane one was the artist, who took his paycheck, did his work, got the gently caress out of dodge, and went to art school so he could actually get real work. As a result, the writer begins making GBS threads on the dude at every opportunity in the final chunks of the game. The writer continues to work in the fetish mines, just hosed up a kickstarter for a third such game, and is a few thousand in debt now because he apparently paid the new artist up front before the campaign failed and now has to make a game on $0 to make anything back. edit: I also still stand by this being the single worst line in the game. claw game handjob fucked around with this message at 09:09 on Feb 7, 2017 |

No, no. They kickstarted a third and it failed, leading to this: https://twitter.com/lachedupgames/status/822237761499320321 Oh, and what you aren't told until the very end of GBDNA: these games all take place in Australia.

They did, that was their second title, the kickstarter was sometime last year. Somewhere else on that twitter he's griping that there will be "no sequel" to Max because it's underperformed so much.

Serious answer: the bar was lowered massively after they swapped from monthly or rarer batches of greenlighting the top 100 titles at a time to "whoever wants to, just click on the top until your wrist gets tired and that's the day's arrivals". Adding to this is that bundles tend to have "vote on Greenlight and get a key" links you can conveniently click to raise a lot of hits fast, and itch.io creators may also spam anyone who's claimed a key from them to do similar (hi a few devs I've dealt with). Combine the above and you can fly through real quick with a little effort. There are also services you can pay for a block of votes but I've heard Valve has been watching for that and banning the bots where they find them. Dunno if that's a thing still to consider.

Lucinice posted:If that game were made today it would probably be about buying in game loot boxes or something. That exists. This game really is a modern version of DLC Quest, down to being made of repetitive Unity assets and ripping on f2p titles in a fashion that's not really clever or explanatory so much as incredibly repetitive and irritating. It's a testament to the mistake a lot of people make where they think "parody" in gaming means "doing the lovely thing you want to make fun of over and over".

Gynovore posted:Honestly, how much net profit can a zero-effort asset-flip game make? Four, five hundred at the absolute most. Serious answer to a stupid question, your goal with something like that is a shotgun blast approach. Here's various ways you recoup from a project like that in a quick turnaround:
One game won't make $500 without some luck in this bottom tier, but if you're churning out one every few days (and I'm being wildly generous here), this is a quick, filthy path to profit you repeat on the regular when your company is blown up, leaving anyone with the cards holding the bag since they can't be sold now... But also leaving you free to start a new company with a name untainted by your old bullshit and repeat.
