Rapid Squirrel, also known as Crazy Squirrel on the actual title screen, is an incomprehensible Russian tablet game that is probably part of a money laundering scheme and is so bad that Steam themselves actually delisted it.

Bloodbath Kavkaz is what happens when a Russian imageboard makes a meme-filled knockoff of Hotline Miami about killing Muslims and then turns it into a commercial product by tracing all the copyrighted photos.

The one redeeming thing about it is that the soundtrack is actually pretty awesome.

I don't understand this new Steam lovely Game business at all.

If you look at a lot of the actual user statistics of these games most of them only ever reach sales figures in triple digits at best. Which makes people like Jim Sterling making videos about how outraged he is by their existence that get hundreds of thousands if not millions of views and lead to this entire ongoing witchhunt about quality control on Steam much more laughable, because if it weren't for streamers bandwagoning on it for views then nobody would even be aware of their existence in the first place.

Radiator 2 is free on Steam, it's a funny way to kill 20 minutes but yeah there is kind of a point of diminishing returns with Robert Yang trying to make literally every single project he touches be some kind of wacky homoerotic novelty minigame.

Gon' E-Choo is a 3 stage, arcade-style game based on early arcade platformers.

That, uh, takes place in a creepy basement wallpapered with drawings of the main characters that you walk around slowly with heavy, ominous footsteps.

A comic, huh? Must be some kind of promotional thing...

..nope, actually it turns out that the game is the brainchild of a vore fetishist who has spent years :nms:drawing a comic of the same name that is mostly excuses to draw an alligator eating little boys:nms:.

Which is also what the game is about. :shepicide:

I know it's just confirmation bias at work but furries are really the kings of innocuous-looking retro games actually being secret perv-fests. I remember awhile back some people in the Steam thread were interesting in a retro platformer on Greenlight called Anubis and the Buried Bone until somebody actually googled the creator and found out that :nws:the game had faux-8-bit animated gay porn in it featuring the suspiciously young-looking protagonist:nws:.

Discendo Vox posted:

Yes. It was also something of a design clusterfuck. That creator, too, is a vore fetishist, something I learned while googling them after encountering the frankly really unbearable first version of the game. When the closer to serviceable version 2 was being played in the fangames LP thread, I mentioned the creator's...interest offhandedly and got a lot of heat for it. Then Fortress stage 4 took place entirely inside a dragon. The author's avatar is there in a secret room, even.

There's room out there for a good remake or reinagining of the DOS games (they have a surprising number of fans), but it hasn't happened yet.

That's amazing.

Is there no review or quality control to Steam Greenlight games at all?

For all its flaws and rampant abuse of the voting system Greenlight at least does fulfill it's role in letting small indie games get onto the store. Granted it also lets in a lot of trash but its not like theres a limited amount of space on Steam so it's only a problem for people who take The Inegrity Of My Steam Front Page Experience too seriously.

The new system Valve is working on is going to abandon the community system entirely and is just going to be letting people pay a flat fee to get their games on Steam, which seems like the worst of both worlds because it does nothing to actually control quality or curate content but does lock out especially small and poor developers who can't gamble what could be over a thousand dollars on their game being successful on Steam.

BundleStars has reached peak Steam garbage with a bundle of 47 games for ONE DOLLAR, headlined by none other than FEMINAZI: The Triggering.

The whole thing is basically a scam based on the card market: if you buy a game with Steam trading cards for roughly 10-19 cents then you will make a profit or at least break even selling them, and if you're the kind of person who cares about their Steam stats it's a cheap way to get a bunch of level 1 badges. In the end Valve and the seller make money off of only transaction, the only people that really lose are the ones paying real money for jpegs so they can watch numbers go up. So a bundle like this is free money to anybody who doesn't value their time, though the process has been pretty automated thanks to the proliferation of auto-idlers that let you unlock cards without even having to install the game and Chrome extensions that let you put items on sale en masse.

Valve tried to put a stop to it by capping the minimum price of games at 49 cents but these third-party vendor bundles let them wriggle around it

I really really don't get the appeal of these thousands-of-achievements games on Steam. I mean, at least on a Xbox or whatever, you have your gamerscore, another meaningless thing, but it was a tangible system and it was hard to cheat your way into. (I suppose it's probably less hard now.) But on Steam, one can just buy a bunch of games and use hacks to activate all their achievements. I guess I are idiots that'll brag about anything. It's surreal that anybody cares about that number enough to worry about it, much less a number so easily manipulated. I guess what I'm saying is: how is this a thing?

People buying crappy ripoff porn games is no mystery, though.

One of the unlockable profile geegaws you can get is an achievement displayer so you can spell out all kinds of filth and memes using achievement icons if you get creative with it, so Steam achievements are actually more useful than any other platform's.

So I finally encountered one of those lovely thousands of achievements games in the wild: Viewpoints, which I won in a SteamGifts giveaway.

It's even shadier than I was expecting because the way that it works is that it has a timer counting down from 2:30:00 and when it reaches zero (which is comfortably past the two hour cutoff for losing refundability) then a little button pops up and clicking it makes you get all ~8000 achievements at once.
