unfortunately, while your organization is big enough to include trots, they're going to regularly pull embarrassing stunts, as the soviets learned 1927-1938. i think the article is a little off, though, because it blames the international committee for not putting up this or that event in a timely manner without acknowledging that october 7th popped off right around the end of the delegation and steering immediately had much bigger fish to fry

yes it's not really possible under the current rules (and i don't actually like the ancient demcent expulsion clause anyway, you can see where it's situationally useful but it's worse than having clearer and more direct rules). the best dsa can do, right now, is outorganize and ideologically marginalize people like that, but the good news is that i think that is actually happening because the international committee is both largely popular and repeatedly vindicated in its initially-controversial public stances and is continuing to make connections with foreign socialist and communist parties despite embarrassments like the above (for instance i'm pretty sure we have more delegations to cuba planned, so at the very least the communist party of cuba understands what's going on and that most of us support them to the hilt)

On the delegation’s second night I arranged a meeting with Maykel Vivero, an independent journalist and LGBTQ activist. A night later, I met him again alongside two other comrades from the delegation.

Maykel Vivero, who writes for a queer-focused publication called Tremenda Nota, is a socialist who is critical of both the US blockade and the Cuban government.
maria does an interesting thing here, not saying maykel gonzalez-vivero's full name

quote:

Maykel González, from the subversive site Tremenda Nota, publicly stated that, during his stay in the United States, specifically in the state of Ohio, he attended an academic program with professors from the university.

"There was a contact with officials in charge of attending the press at the State Department, I had a private appointment with State official Priscila Hernandez," Gonzalez said.

In this design, the Cuban-American Aimel Ríos Wong stands out from NED. As Head of the Cuba Program, he distributes the funds approved to dismantle ideological and cultural paradigms from outside and inside the Island.

"'Independent' media financed by the U.S. Government for subversion against Cuba.

Maykel González, from the subversive site Tremenda Nota, said that Rios Wong called him, went for a "ride in Washington", and recognized him as someone who has been present, who has been in constant dialogue with the actors, both from journalism and civil society.

"We are working with about $7,000 for a quarter, from which we do the planning of the work, and it is allocated by all the fees we have to pay," said Maykel Gonzalez.
so she decided to, on a delegation to cuba, go meet with a blogger that gets paid $7000 a quarter from the US state department to criticize the government and brought 2 other delegates with her. it's so loving embarrassing. god drat.

it hasn't been identified who said which reasons but members of r&r had "family" reasons and "safety concerns because they live in miami" or "ideological concerns" for not meeting with the loving president of cuba who cared enough to take 2 hours out of his day to meet with loving dsa, and 4 dumbfucks from the 44 member delegation sat it out

that said, PCC did consider the delegation a success and wants to make it a regular event every year or two, so i guess the 40 members that didn't skip the meeting with the president made a good enough impression

I counted one paragraph criticizing the US for its economic sanctions and about 100 criticizing Cuba's REPRESSIVE GOVERNMENT BUREAUCRACY. Plus this howler:
