Well its obviously balanced towards 100% enc but the slider is a concession to QoL and the fact that this is a handheld game so you might want to get through this bit of dungeon/overworld before the bus hits your stop.

Silver being used as protection against poison is actually an idea taken from the real world, not fantasy at least. In China, royalty would use silver chopsticks because it was believed that any poison in the food would cause them to darken. It didn’t really work out, but the thought was there. :v: Not sure if the use of silverware is the same for western royalty or not.

Silver does actually have antimicrobial properties, but theyre only useful in preventing further bacterial growth rather than for actively sterilizing (barring specialized silver compounds and the associated processes to effectively use them). So no throwing silver in poop water and expecting it to be clean later.

Thus throwing silver coins in a well (an old practice) was kinda vindicated. But not really.

As in Final Fantasy games with the class, Red Mage is much more useful for the abilities it has, rather than for any merits of the class itself. And before you ask, no, the most useful abilities of the Red Mage class generally do not include Red Magic. You're usually better off with a dedicated white/black mage rather than using the slower-growing and lower-level Red Magic. In FF games, it's generally Dual Cast - which is the ability to cast two spells at once - and here, it's a couple of BP manipulation support abilities the class gets, which can be used in conjunction with other class abilities.

Spell Fencer does the whole "hybrid class" thing better than Red Mage, although it doesn't try as hard to be a "jack of all trades" as the RM. It's pretty focused on direct damage.

And the (usually) more robust physical and speed stats of Red Mages, and most importantly their ability to wield swords, which usually come with magic boosts or other nice buffs.
On a personal note Red and Blue mages are my favorite archetypes of any magic wielding game characters, ever.

Jewel beetles are an actual type of beetles, prized for their shiny and often iridescent shells.
They used to use their wings for decoration and jewelry and the species that was used for that in japan, Chrysochroa fulgidissima, is called Tamamushi, literally "gem-bug".

Apparently someone doesn't realize the difference between "Mercenary" and, um..."Foreign Expeditionary Force?" If the Black Blades are a division of the Eternian Army, they aren't mercenaries, they're Eternian forces deployed to back up their Swordbearer allies.

Theyre a PMC with deep eternian governmental ties.

I love that they gave the pirate the traditional pirate accent, but named him after Turkish corsair Hayreddin Barbarossa and not, like, Blackbeard.

Many places have a long and fine(ly scallywaggly) history of piratry. Its good that things other than the time of the English Corsairs get acknowledged.

Though I cant think of a criminal occupation more romanticized than a pirate, nor any in that group more than English Privateers (former or otherwise discharged/disgraced).

I think the only other time "city airship" has been done in the FF franchise is FF8, but Breath of Fire 2 had TownShip as your second airship.

Ff5 also has the city that floats up into the air.
