Not really at the time, many hotels dont let you book then anymore, having wised up As for how it works, you buy a badge early, and when hotel reg opens up you are given a time slot to access housing portal to actually make a reservation. If your time is over say 2 hours, there's probably nothing left within easy walking distance. Times vary from instant to 12 hours later.
