The Unused Substitutes have this cool online magazine called The Bench: http://www.theunsubs.com/wp/2017/04/22/the-bench-vol-2-issue-4/2772 There will be an #MLS2StPete rally a week from now before the Rowdies home game, three days before the May 2nd St. Pete referendum; details in The Bench above. Things are looking good for a yes vote; fingers crossed knock on wood. Coincidentally, MLS is reevaluating the Miami situation this coming week.

I stayed at the hotel right next to their stadium recently and was super disappointed that they weren't in town that weekend. I've watched a couple of their games streaming, and it seems like a sweet place to watch some soccer.

The past few years I've went on the 4th of July - they let everyone stay in the Stadium after the game and watch the Downtown Pittsburgh fireworks. Pretty cool stuff.

So as I am sure everyone knows by now, the vote in St. Petersburg passed with 87% yes vote Tuesday last week. And now we go back to the waiting game. #MLS2StPete #MLS2TampaBay #Rowdies2MLS #COYR In other news, CSA has approved the new Canadian Premier League. Asheville, North Carolina now has a soccer team: Asheville City Soccer Club (NPSL). This is definitely the type of small city I can see supporting a lower league club. Yes they even have a small selection of locally microbrewed beer. Possible new USL D3 club in Lexington, Kentucky. Nashville MLS bidder buys the USL club, Nashville SC, for a unified club ownership in Nashville. Phoenix Rising hires Goldman Sachs to finance their potential MLS stadium. Tacoma Rainiers minor league baseball club will be taking over and running Sounders 2 reserve team in partnership with the Seattle Sounders. With a new local stadium and a new name/brand for Tacoma.

A Canadian Premier League is a good idea. The question is, will the Canadian MLS clubs play ball?

all-Rush mixtape posted:A Canadian Premier League is a good idea. The question is, will the Canadian MLS clubs play ball? I'd say that depends on what "playing ball" entails. The uncomfortable tension that's always been in my mind about the CPL is that MLS has already planted itself in the three biggest TV (and otherwise) markets in Canada, and while it's not clear how well a national league would do financially and mindshare-wise without a presence there, it's also not clear how well it would manage to compete in those areas in direct competition. We only know concrete details about two of the starting teams in the CPL (Winnipeg and Hamilton) so honestly I still don't know how they intend to resolve this. There was some noise about the Canadian MLS teams putting their affiliate teams in CPL instead of USL (with the predictable reaction from a lot of vocal CPL fans) but that's died down and all you've got instead is people like TFC's president making noises about being "very protective" of Toronto as a market.

Well, there are nine cities with teams in the CFL. Of them: -Three have MLS teams -Two are in division 2 -Two have been confirmed to the CPL Which leaves Calgary and Saskatchewan the only two markets not yet represented. Even with those two places getting teams, the CPL really needs at least 2 of the 3 MLS markets to get to a respectable 8 members (unless Quebec City has a soccer stadium).

For the CPL, I've been reading that the goal will be something like: Victoria, BC2 (Fraser Valley or Kelowna), Edmonton, Calgary, Regina, Winnipeg, Hamilton, Kitchener-Waterloo, Ottawa, Quebec city, moncton & Halifax.

It was perhaps the club’s worst loss since its reboot season in 2013. quote:“Last Friday night after the EoS article came out I got a phone call from Joe Barone,” Luis Hernandez, one of the founders, told EoS on Thursday afternoon. “Among other things he said he got 3 a.m. local time call from Rocco [majority owner Rocco Commissio] who was with the club in Saudi Arabia. There was a lot of anger. Part of what he said was something like if you want to talk about this on the podcast you’ll see what happens. Also a shadowy foreign sports marketing/money laundering operation is a part of the ownership group and I for one am shocked!

Link Looks like FC Cincinnati has started in on details regarding a stadium plan. Any mention of public funding, tax increase or not, is going to face a lot of opposition thanks to the legacy of Paul Brown Stadium. May be better received across the river at the Newport location, but it'll be interesting to see how it all plays out. I'd be happy with Newport or the West End location (close to OTR), but I see both being an absolute traffic nightmare without some serious infrastructure work.

peter wilt is creating yet another league to compete with USL-Div 3 because in the grim future of american lower league soccer there is only war http://midfieldpress.com/2017/06/06...launch-in-2018/ quote:In April, the group held a meeting with representatives from potential clubs in 17 different markets. Shortly thereafter, Wilt and Cummins formed the National Independent Soccer Association (NISA), and have since received 10 letters of intent to join. Wilt expects that the NISA will kick off in the spring of 2018, and that 8-10 clubs will be part of the inaugural season, with other investor groups expected to take the league up to 14-16 teams for the 2019 season. The intention is for NISA to top out at 24 clubs, and then participate in promotion and relegation with other leagues. theres some insanely optimistic math here quote:Operating expenses can be as low as $1.5M per year, whereas a higher end budget for this league is $3.0M per year. We believe the lower end model can be successful for clubs that can sell 3000 tickets per game and be moderately successful with corporate sponsorships.

Rowdies now or soon will have at least three ex-Cosmos players (Sebastian Guenzatti, Walter Restrepo, Leo Fernandes). Collect 'em all! Strikers aren't around anymore to take players from, so we raid the Cosmos. If Rowdies go to MLS, Giovanni Savarese might be available as coach, maybe. Apparently he wants to leave the Cosmos for an MLS coaching gig.
