Actually it's brilliant because it might produce a mod-season bump in scoring as goalies adjust to their new gear.

Then by next season they'll have figured everything out and goals will average back downwards because all NHL goalies are all freaks of nature, even the "lovely" ones.

So queue up another regulation change next February, same result!

How the hell are people seeing hockey at 60fps? Because I want it bad:

Also pretty good save I guess, but Comcast here in Chicago doesn't give me a picture anywhere near that awesome.

Not enough years left in the universe for that to happen.

Main thing that stood out to me in that video his how far forward dudes bent at the waist when building up speed. Gretzky could almost kiss his knees in some of those rushes.

Compare to a modern skater like Crosby where they use more of a squat, keeping their nose more or less even with their knees.

Goddamn Gretzky threading the loving needle like it's nothing

Well see all NHLers back then were pylons incapable of playing defense because they were still winded from chain smoking on the bench. So actually Gretzky was a really bad hockey player.

There's also the issue of Tony Esposito, who shows up in that video a few times getting schooled by 99 and 17.

Unless people are saying Tony O was a bad goaltender at which point there might be a fight breaking out soon. :colbert:

I do wonder how many coaches on bad teams woke up this morning, read the news, and suddenly got butterflies in their stomach wondering if they're about to get fired.

Ban all coaches, instead players show up an 30 minutes before puck drop (except that one guy who always shows up late and doesn't hit the ice until after the game starts) to get dressed then go out and play some hockey.

Not like coaches do anything except yell at people when they mess up, who needs that stress?

As much as we give refs poo poo, they do have to put up with people like that. They're on the ice too, and yeah, they get battered and bruised, usually unintentionally.

The players were lined up offset from the faceoff dot for some reason and the ref dropped the puck anyways.. seems like a bad faceoff to me. Guess that made Vermette mad and he wanted an unpaid vacation.

Should be 20 games. At least Wideman had some kind of quasi explanation in the sense you can see it being worth a defense. Vermette has no excuse of any type.

There's also severity of the hit to consider.

I really don't think so. Intent not results is what should matter and the NHL needs to stop scaling punishments on injury severity.
