lmao

I can't really believe it finally happened. It feels weird to look at my Habs jersey and think "our coach is Claude Julien" and realize that there isn't a hard, immovable coaching cap on what the team can do now. Put me down for "still not gonna win the Cup this year" but I'm gonna be watching with a poo poo ton more enthusiasm and interest now

Anyone not ranking Gretzy #1 is being transparently contrarian and boring

Habs played like poo poo but

1. they actually carried the puck into the zone a lot
2. deployment was a lot better than under Therrien
3. No line blender as soon as things started going wrong
4. Price is good again

Gonna take more than one practice for Julien to get their heads out of their asses but I saw enough positives today

Trying to directly compare stats from different eras is dumb, the best way to assess someone's greatness is what they did compared to what the league was doing at that time and by that standard Gretzy is still the best.

Everyone else on that ice got to play against the same people and I don't see any of them with 2800 points.

This

also lol at the guy who thought "Fire Julien" was unironic cmon

I give it 65% that the Habs lose to NYR on Tuesday, but then again maybe it really was just Bye Week Scaries and they won't play like poo poo

#Habs Julien on 27/28 errors: "With younger players & certain players u have to be patient...If you want them to be better you have to accept mistakes."

I missed the second game .. I'm 0-2 for watching Julien games for personal reasons, but a vendor is trying to butter me up getting me to buy his poo poo so I might be getting an invite to their box at ACC for the game vs Leafs on Saturday.

How did they look today?

Pretty good. Aggressive on the PK, had some good o-zone possession. A few ugly defensive lapses (gave up two beautiful breakaways) but I was pretty happy overall. Fancystats were pretty strong too, something like 55% score adjusted Corsi

e: It was a rare "Price was amazing but that wasn't the sole reason they won" game

I don't think Julien could get fired by Montreal under any circumstances this year, no matter what happens. Bergevin is less certain if they missed the playoffs.

and the name of that veteran?

albert einstein

A veteran journeyman who had been part of many playoff pushes and been traded lots of times was waiting for the trade deadline to arrive.

This team had a GM that who couldn't skate backwards and was a member of the fancystats brigade. One day the GM shocked everyone by walking into the locker room, looking up and stating "Guys, if intangibles are real, I want something intangible to get in my way and stop me from walking on the logo in the middle of the floor here. I will start walking very slowly."

The GM began to take slow, deliberate steps toward the logo. When the GM was inches from the logo, the veteran got up from his seat, approached the GM and punched him in the face knocking him to the floor away from the logo, and out cold. The veteran simply went back to his seat.

The GM came to, visibly shaken and asked the veteran, “What the heck did you do that for?!”

The vet said, “Intangibles are real and grit is more important than puck possession and you never played the game you fuckin dumb nerd. Burrows is good btw”

This seasons kind of turning into The Max Pacioretty Show feat. The Montreal Canadiens instead of the usual Carey Price est Les Boys one. Moderately less frustrating games this week boys, congrats on the whole first streak in ages thing. :unsmith:

I look at it as a game we would have lost if not for Max, which means stealing some points while waiting for everyone else to regress to the mean. I like the prospects of the team as a) their shooting percentage rebounds and b) they get better acquainted with Julien's system, so winning games and improving playoff chances while that process is still happening is great.

Welcome back god mode Carey lord protector of le domaine and gardien de but. I had a feeling he'd been on a comeback the last 3 games and was just getting the short end of puck luck.

Both goalies I saw tonight played very well but Bobrovsky made some truly outrageous poo poo happen.
