Leafs have been playing like poo poo the last month or so, so grain of salt on that performance.

They were 7-6 in January and ended December with 4 wins in a row, so I wouldn't say complete poo poo? Last three games have been awful though.

I'm looking forward to seeing this Marchenko guy. Hopefully he has more opportunities than Corrado had.

I like Babcock I just don't understand his love of the current D corp. Corrado isn't great but I didn't think they gave him a fair look before waiving him. Marchenko isn't playing tonight because...??? But otherwise I'm pretty happy with Babcock. Team is fun to watch and even the year when they were broken pieces held together with duct tape they still competed really hard.

I figured Jagr had got to be the second oldest player in the NHL all time after Howe, but somehow I forgot that Chelios and his weird golem-face was undying.
52 years, 11 days - Gordie Howe (1980)
48 years, 71 days - Chris Chelios (2010)
45 years, 1 day - Jaromir Jagr (Present)

Looks like you've got a ways to go, Jagr.

One of the commentators in last night's game said Jagr jokingly said he would play until he was 55 but they weren't quite sure if he was actually joking.

Drouin might be really good.

He makes guys look like they're on rookie mode lately. Last couple highlights from different games I've seen of him he's just clowning around in the offensive zone like butter.

also maple leafs #51 looks like he completely zoned out and didnt consider that he should maybe defend the guy right in front of him until "OH poo poo HE HAS THE PUCK NOW"

Gardiner "completely zoned out" is the perfect description of his game sometimes.

I will say I like Gardiner a lot and he's definitely a net positive, but with Rielly hobbled the team really needs him to not... do what he's been doing lately.

Yea I mostly like him too, he just has those moments where you don't know what he's thinking, or if he's thinking at all.

Yeah in the old days Babs would have just thrown him out there and then his career would have been ruined. I miss seeing him play too but 100% with the docs on this one.

Agreed.

Koopa Kid posted:

Babcock has been pretty vocal with his opinion that Marner should have been cleared by now, but considering how Rielly has looked coming back early from his sprain I think Marner should be held out as long as he needs.

It's also pretty lovely to call out team doctors in the media like that imo, I understand the frustration but coaches in general should probably keep their medical opinions to a minimum.

Also agreed.
