op knives > guns because they're quieter the quieter they are, the more likely we are to use them the more likely we are to use them, the less lip we get guns for show, knives for a pro for reals tho everybody should have at least a decent quality hunting knife and be comfortable with it. they're far less expensive than a gun and there's next to no regulations about owning them. or some hanzo steel and a copy of that book about samurai swords being effective personal defense on the street. edit: here it is

call to action posted:If you're actually talking about defending yourself, getting within arms reach of your assailant is generally considered a bad idea unless you're sure you're much stronger/capable than they are no it's more this: ate poo poo on live tv posted:But I'd agree that a knife has a lot more utility then a gun. whereas a gun has pretty limited utility outside of making something less alive than it currently is. can you defend yourself with a knife? sure. should that be your plan A in a life-or-death situation? probably not. however, if you feel the need to keep a weapon around for home defense or whatever, a decent knife can still provide that function, and it doesn't run the risk of accidentally firing a load of buckshot into your teenage kid who came home late from a party and spooked you.
