JUST MAKING CHILI posted:If you're digging Dan Stevens and haven't seen The Guest yet, go watch it right now. It took me a while to get over the fact that he was yet again playing a character named David. I kept thinking back to his role in The Guest for the first half of the show, but he's doing so well as a totally different character that I think I'm over it now. Can't wait until next week, goddamn what a good pilot. Henchman of Santa posted:I'm really into Evil Art Garfunkel You mean the Soap Guy? Because that was clearly Evil Tom Waits. The interviewer says that Lenny was found dead, embedded in a concrete wall so that actually happened. Syd could've been rescued by the mutants who showed up in the car, and I assume all three of them are real. Maybe none of them are, but I'd say everybody but maybe telekinetic guy are real. However, Syd could've also put herself into more of David's memories than she was actually in, the bedroom scene could've been fabricated by her as he's recalling his memories to the interviewer.

Lowtechs posted:Exactly! Also why are some of you jumping on Syd=Rogue there isn't really anything to suggest that besides her not liking to be touched. It'd be like a mutant character on the show shooting [insert thing here] out of their eyes and everybody having to compare them to Cyclops. My first instinct when I saw Syd was that she was meant to be Rogue, but that was because I didn't do any research on the show beforehand and went in blind. I didn't know about there being no connection to the mainline X-Men comics or movies, the character's name or power, etc. Also does anybody here still think Syd is Rogue or are you must assuming that?

I can't believe people are having a hard time figuring this show out, I mean I'm usually one of those guys who totally miswatches or misinterprets a show and I'm having a pretty easy time understanding it. The only mysteries that I can think of off-hand are: - David's deal with his father, and why he can't remember his face - What caused the time jump in David's memory, did someone tamper with his memory to try and erase any evidence of telekinesis? - Who or what that little ugly guy is Everything else has been answered, like if Syd is real (she is) or if the woman at the institute is real (probably) or the memory specialist guy (also probably).

I'm thinking the book is connected, like that telekinetic event in the kitchen killed one or both of his parents and that's why it's tied to the book about the kid who killed his parents.

Yeah, Dan Stevens really pulls off the "sweet boy next door who also has really loving demented crazy eyes" look. It worked well in The Guest and it works well here.notthegoatseguy posted:Lenny really could well be a figment of David's imagination. Going down this path, you'd have to really double-or-triple-down on the characters who are also figments, like the interviewer guy and Syd. Both have mentioned Lenny and how she died, and the solid plaster wall thing seems to be something that actually happened.

Yes, David's "autistic and childish" desire to kiss a woman who's in mutual love with him and wants to kiss him too if she were physically capable.

Combed Thunderclap posted:Seriously that episode was basically Psychonauts The TV Show and I can watch that all day I had that exact thought, especially at the weird recurring World's Angriest Boy in the World monster and the walls cracking and hands poking through in the psychiatrist's office. Having never seen Parks & Rec or anything else Aubrey Plaza has been in, I never understood people's (goons') obsession with her. Now I get it.
