Hello? Can you hear me? ...Perhaps if I shout? AAAAAAAAAH!

Nyx is out forever. There goes my last source of Heartseeker, oh well.

The Faceless are more annoying than actually threatening, since they have very good defense with a bunch of skills that may hurt.

If you can call it a gimmick, these Waste tiles reduce movement of every ground unit except Fujin Takumi to 1 and reduces their avoid. That's...about it. It's just a super-straight forward routing of Faceless otherwise.

PSkill: Calm-After choosing to Wait, Skill and Resistance +4 for one Turn

Hisame is a Hana clone, arguably worse than Hana because 16 strength at level 20 is...not good. And that PSkill is...there I guess?

The only good thing about Hisame is that he does not remotely move, so he'll be safe for a few turns before a Faceless eventually runs to his position by turn 5.

Father, you came to rescue me? After everything I said?
Hey now, don't you worry. Your dad's here. Late, yeah. But here. And these monsters don't stand a chance against me!
Hmm.
*mumble*...a hero.
What? You say something? Can't mumble in battle. You gotta get to it!
No, it's nothing. Really.
Ah, well, if you say so. Now, excuse your dad while he goes in swinging!

No... I'm staying. I've got your back, Father.
Whoa! When'd you grow up to be a hero like your ol' dad?
I've got your back too, Son. No one's ever going to get between us.

Oh my god, he's totally delusional

Yes, I'll make sure of that.
All right, come on. Let's show these gross piles of evil who's boss.
Let's end this quickly. It's cutting into my father-son time.

Welp, another scenario where a kid rightfully calls out a parent for abandoning them but drops it in the end.

Hisame is switching to a MoA to give him some killing power, and his growths are just overall better. Plus, there's already enough sword specialists at this point. Need more axe users.

I would really like to say anything interesting about this mission, but it's a slow, plodding grind to kill Faceless which don't challenge the team. There's reinforcements on like turn 7 but that's about it.

The only thing I'll note is jesus christ, Saizo how the gently caress do you only have 17 speed

And with that, good-bye.
Hey now, you're still giving up on me? That's it? No talking it through?
I...I can explain... Of course I clearly belong in the Deeprealms. That's why you stuck me there, right? Because I couldn't make it here?

Oh, he thinks he deserves being in the Deeprealm. Ugh.

Absolutely not. There's no point. You're a hero. I'm not.
Hmm. You're being a blockhead, Son. So I'm going to lay it out for you...
Did you SEE yourself out there?! That was a HERO on the field! How'd you even do any of that? You were amazing. That's proof enough that you're right. I wasn't here. YOU trained you.
...
Hisame, please. Travel with me? You don't need to go back.
Hmm? Go with you? I won't get in your way?
No, of course not. I'd love to have you around all the time. I hope I can make it up to you for not visiting enough.

You know how a lot of dads felt kinda guilty or conscious about the Deeprealm rules? It's no shock that Hinata is the one just forgot that was a thing.

But I swear we'll spend every possible minute together from now on!
Father... I mean, Dad...
All right. Let's go. Heh. You haven't changed a bit. Just like when you used to show up and I'd come running...
Haha! Yeah! Where's my hug?! I got some hair-ruffling to catch up on! Come on over here!
Gods, no. I'm not a child anymore!
Oh, that's right. OK, OK... I got it. We're good.

That's an insult to bears, and people with good beards.

All right! I can work with that!
Huh? Hang on. Hold everything. You're not! You can't be! Have you gotten TALLER than me?!
Heh. Maybe? Maybe not. Anyway, I need to head back home to say good-bye. I'll be back shortly. *leaves*
What? No way! Stand next to me! Just for a second! We gotta measure it out!

Whatever. I'll show you my piece first!

Let's not pretend this wasn't going to be the thread's vote considering dozen pages of "hinting" from everyone

I'll give you three seconds to give a guess what Caeldori spells in a different way.

Now then, where is my daughter?

Cordelia, like Gaius is semi-here in Fates.

Caeldori, my dear! You've frown even more beautiful while I've been away.
Goodness. Please, Father. You're embarrassing me.
Do I dote too much? Maybe so.
You've been well, I hope?
Yes, of course. I've kept up with every aspect of my training and studies. And in my spare time, I've memorized several books about war strategy.
Wow! Impressive. Trying to be perfect, just like your father?
I'm aiming for capable. I've never seen real combat yet...
Take your time, Daughter. Don't rush yourself. The reason my friends and I are constantly at war is to end war.

Enemies are attacking a site as we speak—you're needed at once.
All right. I'll go at once.
I'm here too! I can fight, Father!
You want to join me?
Well, why not? I would learn so much more in actual combat. Besides, don't you need all the help you can get?

Subaki, you've been benched for like 20 missions

I couldn't bear the thought of putting you in harm's way.
But, Father!
Caeldori, don't you worry. My friends are excellent at what they do. And I must say that I approach perfection on the battlefield.
Wait here. I'll return as soon as the battle's over.
I, um... But...
No buts, Caeldori. I'll be back in a jiffy. *leaves*

I will say that I like Cael's portrait poses a lot better than Cordelia's.

Double pincer assault on two separate islands. Yet another rout map, and no gimmicks involved.

Party will be from lowest level at this point, because too many of my guys are becoming over leveled. Corrine was gaining like 4 EXP on kills last mission.

Hello? Can you hear me? ...Perhaps if I shout? AAAAAAAAAH!

You're going to see Hana for a while, because half the party is overleveled and I'm still not done with Hoshidan kids.

The odds seem...against us.

*A unit flies next to Subaki*

Caeldori, you shouldn't be here!
I'm sorry. I don't mean to disobey you. But I had to jump at the opportunity!
Daughter...
I want to help! I really, really do! I'm tired of sitting home alone and waiting to be of some use. I'll never be as prefect as you are, Father. But I'd like to start trying to be!

Well, at least she's been...productive?

I won't disappoint you.
Caeldori, of course you won't. You seem like quite a wonder already!
All right. Stay and fight alongside me. Don't get overconfident though. This is your first battle, after all!
Yes, of course. I'll do my best, Father!

PSkill: Prodigy-At the start of the battle, if the enemy’s Strength or Magic (whichever is highest) is higher than Caeldori’s corresponding stat, damage +4

So Caeldori has low strength, but her PSkill raises it up pretty high in a lot of situations. In most cases, she will get the bonus against mages and enemies that don't trigger the PSkill aren't a threat to her.

The true "gimmick" of this map is that every single enemy save for one has a sword or is a mage. And Caeldori has high resistance while equipped with a Swordcatcher. It's basically designed for her to get a lot of EXP easily.

Caeldori's strength growth is kinda bad, but infinitely worse as a Kinshi Knight. Plus, I already have like three dedicated archers.

I would really like to say anything interesting about the mission, but it's just basic bait and feed to the lower levels. There's no reinforcements at all, it's basically just FEED Caeldori: the map.

It was your very first battle!
Thanks! But you must have seen that I'm still falling short of your standard. Perfect as you are, that is.
Oh, what's this? You've torn your clothing, Father! I guess even paragons like you can have a bad day. I'll patch those right up. I'm sure I have a sewing needle among my other things.
How...prepared of you.
Yes. I try.

After visiting each and every one, I know that they're all going to be just fine. That us, if we can get them somewhere better for their recuperation. To that end, I've mobilized some of our troops to carry them out of here. I tried to think of what you'd do, basically. Did I catch everything?
Yep, more or less.
Well, I also sent a scout ahead to make sure the way is safe. It is. And, I'm sure I wasn't as thorough as you, Father, but I also...
(...Also?!)

For a reminder, Subaki's thing is that he's actually not perfect and is a super hard worker to keep up the image. Caeldori is the polar opposite, in being actually perfect and talented.

Hey, Father! Hello?
(Hmm. At this rate, Caeldori will soon be more perfect than I am!)
Father? Sorry if I'm boring you...
Huh? No, of course not dear.
I must train harder. I know, I know... Someday I'll be as brilliant in battle as you are, Father. I swear I won’t let you down.
I know you won't, Caeldori. Just don't push yourself too hard!

*A moment later*

So this is a very specific scene that's only available on Revelation and if Selena is the mother. For obvious reasons.

Goodness, Mother. You startled me. But don't you look impressive! As always. I don't know how you do it.
Hmm. Well, Caeldori, there's something I suppose I should tell you. When you were young, you looked so much like your father. But now... Time has its way with us.
What's that? How odd. Time has its—?

Yes. Of course. You've told me much about Grandmother. She was as perfect a knight as has ever been seen. I've always felt that you and Grandmother were so alike!
...
Actually, it's YOU that's like my mother. You're her spitting image.

Out of all the things in Fates, this might be the most awkward situation to create.

The way you carry yourself...every move, every word you say...
Really? I'd love to think that I'm a little like such a great woman. I'll have to work even harder to honor her memory.
Well, you're doing fine. But... But... Just don't mess up!
Yes! I swear I'll do my very best for you, Mother!
Ha ha! All right, all right... I'm sorry. I didn't mean to overreact.

Super awkward easter egg for Awakening fans.

Hmm? What, Mother? Are you being serious?
Um, well... Let's just forget I said anything, Daughter.

I'm like 90% sure Nyx was chosen because of hair color.

At least this is the last Hoshidan kid. Maybe maps will start to get interesting since Conquest kids go by Conquest rules.

Well, only fair since Hayato was part of Subaki's kid mission.

I didn't even know that any part of the Deeprealms looked so...ominous.
It wasn't this creepy the last time I visited Rhajat. Something terrible has happened.
We'd better investigate then.
Hmm. Yes, let's hurry in.

Oh look, actual consequence of leaving a kid alone for like 20 years.

Faceless, everywhere! They seem to be surrounding that house. Maybe even...coming from it?
What? But that's where Rhajat lives. It can mean only one thing... She actually did it.
Did what?
Hmm. There's something I haven't told you about my daughter.

Nyx, what did you do

Last time I came here, Rhajat was amusing herself with summoning spells. But she couldn't get them to work.
Hmm, I just can't believe that your daughter could possibly...

....Ooooh. Rhajat.

I get it.

I guess I shouldn't have been surprised. She's got your knack for magic. It seems Rhajat has succeeded beyond her wildest dreams.
More like her weirdest nightmares. We have to get in there and clean up this mess!
Come to me, my children! Come to Rhajat, your loving mother!
Seriously? That girl...she's dabbled herself into a very dark place.

Nothing but Faceless again, this time in swamp which is still tedious to get through. And worse yet, it's unlimited spawning of them until you either use a Dragon Vein to plug up a swamp spawn, or talk to Rhajat.

Tae
Oct 24, 2010

Hello? Can you hear me? ...Perhaps if I shout? AAAAAAAAAH!

Setsuna is too overpowered. A sentence I never thought would come to fruition.

So technically you can go across the entire, swampy map and activate Dragon Veins. This'll plug up the swamps and prevent the infinite Faceless. They respawn every three turns, so I guess this is a good map to grind on...except this is only available on Birthright and Revelation. You know, the routes with grinding available.

PSkill: Vendetta-When user triggers the battle, if they’ve already fought the enemy in the same map, damage +4

There's another way to prevent the Faceless horde and that's defeating or talking to Rhajat with Hayato.

Vendetta is awful for basically being a super conditional +4 damage when everything but endgame bosses die in two attacks.

Still better than Dywer's.

Aren't you proud of me? I've mastered the art of summoning! The Faceless just keep on coming. It's so beautiful!
What? This is horrifying! If you summon any more of them, we won't be able to cut them all down!
Huh? But I've only just begun. They're a part of our family, Father!
Listen, you need to stop this. Now! Please, Father knows best.
What? How can you say that? You know NOTHING about summoning!
Rhajat, you know that's not what I mean! Now, help us clean up this mess.
Fine, Father.

Easy enough. Defeating her here doesn't change anything, you still get her no matter what. By far the least strenuous kid to recruit when they don't start under your control.

I'm having Rhajat be an Onmyoji since she's already got Rend Heaven from Hayato.

Now, Daughter, I've never discouraged you from dabbling in the dark arts... But do you have to pursue the worst possible spells?!

You KNEW about this??

I have been working on a spell that makes a person taller and less baby faced.
What? Are you really?
No, of course not!

You know, at least in Awakening it's optional to have a kid as a parent back in Awakening. Here, it's mandatory...and you can't use time travel as an excuse for being suddenly thrusted into being a younger substitute....

Very funny.

Huh? No way! My next spell is going to be a hundredfold more effective!
Seriously?! What possesses you to do such things? In that case, I've got no choice. You're coming with us.
What? But this is my sanctum!
If you're going to keep at these studies, then I've got to keep an eye on you. In fact, I'm going to take charge of your magical education.

Oh, NOW you take control. Where was that the last 15+ years?

All right, as long as you give me interesting challenges, Father.
How about you start on that spell to make a person taller? That seems respectable!
Hmpf.
Pardon the intrusion, but I've got some great ideas for research. How about a spell that makes a person less afraid of the dark? Or a cure for crying every time someone botches his battle moves?
Who would need that—you?!

Is this the first non-parent/Corrine interaction between a Deeprealm kid and someone else?

I think he should focus more on being braver, not taller.
Subaki, I'm braver than you are!
Hee hee hee! I'll get to working on those spells right away. After seeing you in action here, Father, I can see how I can really help.

Well uh...at least she doesn't resent her parent???

*A moment later*

I won't miss it too much. It's just a home. The real darkness is inside me.

Wow. Really?

Gurrr...
Huh? One of my children lived?
GUUURRR!
N-n-no! I'm your mother!
Stop, abomination! Get away from her!

*Corrine slays the Faceless*

That was a close one. Are you all right, Rhajat?
...
*urgh*
You are hurt, aren't you?!
You...what's your name?
Who, me? I'm Corrine.

Where is this going

Er, yes?
Thank you for rescuing me, Corrine. I owe you my life. No one's ever been willing to sacrifice themselves for me before.

Uh...wait a second, where's your retainers? Don't these kids usually have retainers left behind?

Huh? That's, uh, not necessary.
You've got my full attention. I'll watch you like a hawk on a mouse. Forever and ever—until one of us is no more. And maybe then some.

This isn't exactly subtle, is it

*Rhajat leaves*

What a strange young woman. I guess that's just her way of saying thanks? Of course, she could have just said "thanks." Odd one, that Rhajat.

Ack!
I'm here for you, should you need me. My dark arts are at your disposal. I will be close as your shadow. Actually...I will BE your shadow.

It's like what happens when somebody just hears a meme about Tharja and missed the whole point of her.

If Corrine is the mother

Mother, I'm so glad you're safe! That summoning spell got a little out of hand. I'm sorry...
No, don't be. You escaped the mayhem unharmed. That's all I care about.
You're...you're not furious with me?
You really are the best mother in the world. So very...kind.
You know I'm not that fond of people. They all seem so...dull. Or maybe it's that I hoard all of my love for you, Mother!
Oh, Rhajat! Who'd ever guess that you're just a softie at heart.
Well, Mother, don't let that get around. People might get the wrong idea. I don't squander my affections on anyone but you. Not just because you're my mother.
Because you're...special.
Well, everyone's special in one way or another, Rhajat.
Nowhere NEAR as special as you, Mother. That's why I really don't mind leaving my home here—I can be with you! I'll watch over you too, like a hawk on a mouse. *leaves*
Hmm? I guess our conversation is over. She does go a bit overboard sometimes, but she really is good at heart.
And who couldn't love someone so truly unique in all the worlds? That Rhajat...
You summoned me, Mother?

Seigbert is probably the one kid I avoid getting even when Xander is very easily married on my normal playthroughs.

And that's because I hate his map.

Hmph, yes. I hope Siegbert is well. It's been too long since my last visit.

*Siegbert arrives to their location*

Father? Is that you? By the gods, you've returned!
Siegbert, my son. You've grown since last I saw you.
I just can't believe it—you're actually really and truly here!
Sorry, Father. I don't mean to get so carried away. It's just that... I receive missives that update me on all the important things you're doing. Every time I get one, I wish I could hear it all from you. But I know how busy you are.
I'm sorry, Son. I hope you haven't been too disappointed in me.
No...

Where Ryoma pretty much left Shiro in the dark to the point that he didn't know what a Hoshido was, Xander's been given reports throughout Seig's childhood.

Besides, I've been very busy myself. My studies of diplomacy, politesse, etiquette—the arts of conversation... Practicing my swordsmanship, even my penmanship... All of these lessons keep me busy from dawn until dusk—I even dream it!

So in some ways, that's why Seigbert is the opposite of Shiro: Diligent, respectful, a nerd.

I see. How impressive. May I prove worthy of such a diligent son.
Father, please don't say such a...

*Two enemies suddenly appear*

They're back!

*Seigbert kills both*

They return today of all days? At this very moment? drat them.
Don't worry, Father! I'll take care of them immediately! *leaves*

This is the worst case scenario of a rout mission. First, the terrain sucks. Second, enemies infinitely respawn until you use a Dragon Vein, kinda like the last map. Except you HAVE to activate all the Dragon Veins.

And reminder that we're in Conquest era now, so all the respawn enemies have Void Curse, preventing any EXP from killing them. Because Conquest gonna Conquest.

Jakob is only sweet and kind to Corrin. He is Deadpool levels of rear end in a top hat to literally everyone else, including his son.

Jakob talks to Frederick posted:

Hey, jerk. What's the big idea?!
Are you talking to me? What have I done to earn such rudeness from you?
Huh? You're the one being rude! You keep looking at Lord Corrin like he's up to no good!
I am only doing my duty in protecting milord from any kind of harm. It is only natural to be suspicious of a person I have never met.
As a royal knight, I cannot afford to simply react to danger. I must anticipate and stop a situation before it can become dangerous.
What you say makes sense, though I resent you seeing Lord Corrin as a threat. So long as we are being honest...
I've been wondering if your "liege" is really a brigand.
What?! You dare insult milord? Does your tongue know no bounds?
You should not be so concerned with how I handle myself! Do we need to resolve this with more than just words?
Hah, surely you jest. I would never take part in such shameful behavior here. I mustn't lose my head in a sign of devotion.
After all, it would be no contest—none can rival my devotion as a retainer.
You seem to be mistaken yet again. I am far more devoted than you could ever be. For example, I've created a custom blend of tea exclusively for my lord.
Ha! That's nothing. The needs of my liege are never, ever far from my mind. When milord decides to travel, I travel ahead and clear any obstacle. Not even the smallest pebble shall trouble milord.
All through the night, I make sure that my lord's rooms are the ideal temperature. Too cold and I add another log to the fire. Too hot and I will quietly crack a window. I do this every night.
Hah, you still do that? I overcame the need to monitor milord's room years ago. I did so by engineering windows that would crack themselves if a room grew too warm.
I also personally chop the logs used in Chrom's fire. The size is never insufficient in providing warmth. They are also pleasing to the eye.
...
...
That's a really good idea, actually.
Thank you. That's kind of you to say.
I'm not sure how I feel about your liege yet, but I think we'll get along fine.
I also feel a sort of kinship with you now. You are the first person I've met that I can call my equal. If this wasn't a battlefield, I'd be compelled to continue this conversation.

So Seigbert is one of the few kids that have been fighting against Valla soldiers. And unlike say Soleil, he's been soloing them to the point that seeing like 50 at once is when things get out of hand.

This invaders seem to be emerging from the waters itself. Curious. Perhaps there's a way to close those doors. So to speak.

Siggy's PSkill is a very expensive +2 damage for a female character, and he'll have to be because his stats are kinda underwhelming. He's already forgoing defenses with Charlotte as his mom, but his speed isn't exceptional which makes him worse than Sophie in every way.

Like, super average to below average in every stat for someone of his lineage. He has decent skill so the inherited Gamble is better, but that's about it.

Reinforcements from the swamps are unpromoted units with Void Curse, so they are nonthreatening but annoying since you have to kill them regardless. The only benefit is some weapon ranking but screw that awful noise.

The one sudden shift to keep in mind is that enemy skills are back for all of Conquest kids, so mind the Seal X skills and Vantage, etc.

Poison Strike ninjas are back on the menu, folks!

The "boss" of the map is this threesome of a General, Hero, and Strategist. They don't move, so no worries about them being an actual threat. The General has Wary Fighter and the Strategist has a Freeze stave.

Otherwise, the map is basically treading through the forest and plugging up swamp. Only a few characters got levels at this point and they were mostly terrible.

Why didn't you notify me?
I...I just couldn't bring myself to do that, Father.
Hmm? I expect you to do your duty, Son.
Ah, I'm sorry. But I've heard so many tales of what an important leader you are. You've got a whole realm to look after—countless lives.

I wouldn't be worthy of being called your son. So, I couldn't tell you.

So Siggy's main thing is that he places Xander as basically an approachable god, and asking for help is shameful. Basically do the exact opposite of the Ryoma/Shiro dynamic.

Hmpf.
Commendable.
Father? But I've hardly done anything worthy of such praise.

Most parents would be like "Holy crap, why didn't you call for help? I'm your parent!" But Xander is like "Good job not telling me, that's the right thing to do."

Then again, this is like S tier parenting in Fates context.

You do, I'm sorry to say. Yet I've never had to tell you so. You came to that realization on your own and meted out justice by yourself. Incredible.
Father, you truly think so? I worried I was bringing shame on your name.
I'm sorry, Son. While you have grown into your role, I have failed in mine.

From now on, be sure to tell me anything that's on your mind.
...
Um, then may I... Could I possibly... I want to join you, Father!
What? Join me?
I...I know why you placed me here—to keep me out of the war. But I believe that I will serve our kingdom far better there than here.
...

Man, I'm sorry. I just can't get over how badly Ryoma treated his son that Siggy knowing about Nohr is surprising.

Battlefields are bloody. Lives are lost. What you see may haunt you. Are you truly prepared for that? There's no dishonor in saying no. Indeed, I will send you back here if you prove unready.
Yes, I am! I swear that I am!
I see. I trust you know yourself better than I do, Son. Then you are welcome on our grim march, Siegbert.
Th-thank you, Father. I won't get in your way.
Together, Son! We march together. Not apart.

Ignoring that Xander is an rear end in a top hat hypocrite in the main story, he did at least learn his lesson to NOT be like Garon.

High bar, I know.

I never had a good Siggy for whatever reason, and the trend continues. His speed is shaky and not that great, his defense is not spectacular in either direction, and his strength isn't that good. Having access to the Cavalier class is doing much of the work for salvaging him, but he's kinda just there.

I'm not a good barometer of "strange."

This mission is kinda like Shiro's, except 10 times worse because it requires a lot of specific stuff. And Conquest enemies are much more threatening.

It might actually be the hardest paralogue.

But it's not much farther until I reach Nohr. I hope Father is glad to see me. But the closer I get, the more enemies I see. Is trouble everywhere here? I hope I'm able to reach him.

I'll be fine. I'll be fine. Just need to keep telling myself that. I'm not a child anymore.

What's wrong? You look as if devils have been at your back!
Oh, worse! Far worse! Devils we could fight! Our village is about to be invaded by enemies that go unseen!
Invisible enemies? Oh, no! What will you do? I mean, what can I do?

So as you can probably tell, Iggy's a big scaredy cat that's trying to swallow his fear. Kinda like Siegbert in trying to please the ideal of their dad, but Iggy's...less skillfull.

You can have...confidence in me.
(Come on, come on. Look her in the eyes. You're a knight, dammit!)
All right, you two run past. I'll stand my ground here and fight them off. I swear that I won't let them inside. But summon more help, if you can.
What?! But they'll be here soon. By the time we find help, you'll be dead!
No. I'll be right here, fighting. But go NOW.
Yes, yes. Of course. *leaves*

I've got my silly little charm, after all. That's always kept me safe.
Best present Father ever gave me.

*A moment later*

We need your help! Our village is about to be attacked! Some brave soul is standing guard alone to fight them off. He may be a knight, and he's got the courage of 10 men. But he'll be a goner! And then...our village will be wide open to those fiends.
What's that? Who was he?
We don't know. He said his name was Ignatius. I think he was scared. But he didn't want to show it.
Ignatius, you say?!

Some knight of Nohr.
No doubt. It's him. What's he doing putting himself at risk? He should have run too!

Oh my god this map. Okay, so I have to use some Rescue staff shenanigans and possibly an Azura Sing to reach an NPC Iggy in like 2 turns. Why two turns? Because nearby Iggy are Master Ninjas with Poison Strike, which means he'll die fast even with Wary Fighter. And he can't join the party if he dies before talking to Benny.

Oh Conquest, how I didn't miss you.

Hello? Can you hear me? ...Perhaps if I shout? AAAAAAAAAH!

I honestly wonder at what stage of the game can you safely rescue Iggy without a flier, because Poison Strike ninja is always a thing.

I assume the easiest time to do this map is right after you get Camilla, because she's way above everyone else in power and can easily solo Iggy's attackers.

PSkill: Guarded Bravery-When user is the lead unit, damage received -2. If no support unit available, damage received +2

Iggy has insanely high defense like his dad, but slightly more strength which is good. Been having a few disappointing kids lately as far as being upgrades over their parents.

That inherited Wary Fighter is the only reason why he won't get destroyed by those nearby Master Ninjas.

There is a bit of a time limit even if Iggy is strong enough to nullify damage against the ninjas, as there's a couple mages from the south that'll slowly approach. They move 1 space at a time, but they will absolutely destroy Iggy when they get there.

Benny hopped on a ride with Beruka to quickly reach his son by turn 3.

Don't come any closer! I swear, I'll cut you where you stand, you big oaf! You are NOT getting inside this village!
Um, whoa. It's me, Son. You know, me, Dad.
Father! Sorry, I... I didn't know you were here fighting too.
Ah, of course, Son. Came running as soon as I heard you were in trouble.

Whoah, Benny. Don't be like Corrine and turn into a blood-thirsty demon everytime your kid gets hurt.

Please now. Step back. Dad's going to fix all this.
I won't, Father. I can't.
Hmm? Can't?
I...I can help. I must. It's time that I do my part. I can't be scared. You've protected me for so long. Now I must do the protecting.
Has my little boy grown up? Already?
Ignatius, are you sure you want to join your dad on the field of battle?
Yes. It would be my honor. Let us defend this village...together.

Benny's got that good balance of being caring about his kid, but knowing when to let them be free and be independent.

Add another Great Knight to the roster, since Iggy's already got the important Wary Fighter.

Meanwhile, the rest of the map is now routing the enemies while still having someone parked on the village entrance.

There is one annoyance in a Maid having a Freeze staff, so watch out for that.

Hmm? Please, Son. There's no need.
Yes, there is. You've got to let me join your forces. I will never be the man you are unless I get the right kind of training.

Ah, interesting. He's got the standard never-be-good enough, but has enough initiative to actively try and change by guilt tripping

But, Son, you're still so—
I'll help you, Father! I swear I can. You've kept me so well protected in the Deeprealms. But I must learn to give protection. I can't hide behind my father forever!

Believe it or not, Iggy is worse than his dad in growths by a big margin. That's hot his fault though, Benny just has the best growths in the three important categories for a physical wall.

His PSkill is more helpful for a defensive character, especially since it's general damage so that plus a Guard Naginata will stand tall against magic attacks. Overall, another Wary Fighter wall is never a bad thing. Effectively risk-free Javelin users are always good.

Keaton...let's not fool ourselves. I am the stronger of us.

Keaton visits his kid voluntarily, which unfortunately puts him in the upper tier of dads in this game.

One of the more unorthodox chapter titles.

Welp, by picking Effie, that little strand of hair that shows off the mother's hair might as well not exist.

*sniff* They have such a nice scent too. So earthy, so rich. I should find the very nicest one and give it to Daddy as a present. But maybe if I pick a fresh one from one of those trees...
Huh? What's up there? Behind those branches? It looks like some sort of weird portal... *sniff, sniff*

Oh, you can smell through portals. Good to know. I will take any info at this point, because the lore of Fates clearly want to be hidden as much as possible.

*Meanwhile*

Oh, we're back to unrelated people in these again.

My daughter, Velouria, is beyond it in her Deeprealm.
I'm looking forward to meeting your daughter. You've said she's more like you than her mother—right down to the tail?
Yup! Pretty much exactly like me. Except that she prefers her own company. A real lone wolf!
She's not used to being around others. You might find her...overwhelming. She really wears her heart on her sleeve. Like, REALLY really.

Sometimes I wonder if it's the translator's fault or the japanese for constantly using the wrong faces at times.

Watch out—trouble approaches!
...
What? It seems we're about to be ambushed.
Not the best timing. I hate to keep Velouria waiting.
But I'm game for a fight.

What seems like a simple rout mission is actually an evil designed bombardment on a funneled army. There's three Fire Orbs, surrounded by a bunch of Faceless with annoying skills.

The gimmick here is that the Dragon Veins here shut off ALL magic for one turn. Another chapter that I'm thankful that I'm overleveled for.

Tae
Oct 24, 2010

Hello? Can you hear me? ...Perhaps if I shout? AAAAAAAAAH!

Congrats, Saizo. You win most missions in a row because you can't kill for crap. I think almost every kid two missions ago is way past your level now.

To the...west? Yes! On the other side of those mountains! Who could it be...?

But how? I've never shown her where the portal is on her side. It can't be her. But that's definitely her scent coming from the west!

I don't think not telling kids where the portals are has ever worked, considering they are just open all the time.

This Strategist sucks. This is why the silence Dragon Veins exist, to kill this guy. Once the Entrapper is dead, the rest is relatively easy.

Here's an rear end in a top hat move by this mission. While everyone is silenced, my characters are still silenced for another turn after this, while the enemies regain their magic. So basically I'm shut off from healing for two turns while they regain theirs as normal.

So basically don't bring a lot of mages to this map.

Beruka may be a lot of things like being super slow, but she is a strong chucker of axes at mage faces.

But she is super slow

Velouria shows up in the mission on the upper left after a few turns.

*sniff* Velouria? By all the hair in my ears! What are you doing here?
I was hunting for just the right gift for you when I caught your scent! Then I found the portal to your world! I can't believe I found you, my dear, daring, dashing Daddy!
I, uh... Those are a lot of Ds.

Oh. Are we? How about I lend a hand? Or a paw? I've been perfecting my hunting skills off in my Deeprealm.
I'm fiercer than the last time you saw me, Daddy.

Velouria comes with a Beaststone and a Beastrune, which lets her switch from defense to offense at a moment's notice. Not like she needs it with those stats, wowee.

Velo can just hang in that corner there, since the enemies nearby won't move from their spot. And thank goodness you can control her from start. I like her already.

Meanwhile, I have Saizo and Rhajat plugging up the starting fortress tiles since obvious reinforcements would come otherwise.

Killing the Entrapper means I can just retreat map and kill off the chasing Faceless, since they have a mix of Poison Strike and Seal Defense aka Dangerous In Packs.

There's still a couple Sorcerer reinforcements, but they're way in the West so it's not a big worry.

Once enough of the middle forces are eliminated, Velouria can enter the battle and easily solo that Dark Knight+two Adventurers.

Seriously, she's that strong. One-shots the DK, takes like 3 damage from the Adventurers with a Beaststone.

So the "Boss" unit of this map has an interesting idea on combat. Wary Fighter and Vantage sounds like a good idea, especially with Nosferatu.

...Why does he have Vengeance, a skill he literally can't use with Nosferatu.

He drops a Beastrune+ after dying.

If you've forgotten, Keaton is very much a guy that tries (badly) to hide his feelings.

Now, Velouria, I want you to scamper back to your Deeprealm. Off with you. I'm busy. You know the way out.
Grrrah!
Hrm? Watch your tone, Daughter.
No!
I mean, yes. I'll watch my tone. But I'm not going back. I'm joining your pack, Daddy.

I thought you said she was a lone wolf. Did you...lie, Keaton? Noooo way.

No way. Never. Go, now!
Huh, But, Daddy...I'm so confused. Your tail is wagging YES.
Whuh? Gaah!
Hey, I just remembered. Before I went through the portal, I found this for you. The perfect acorn!
Wow! That's the prettiest acorn I've ever laid eyes on. So glossy! It's like a pearl! From a tree!

Oh, wow! A bat? It's all shriveled. Its wings are ripped up. Did you chew on it?

"Nutty Family" indeed.

Sure, why not? I guess I am! But as far as you coming with us...? Oh, all right.

I'm sorry. I'm just so glad to be part of your pack at last, Daddy.
All right, all right. But it's not my pack, OK? That's not how this group works.

A ring? My, you certainly don't waste any time, do you?

I don't know why the thread is insistent that Elise has to marry one of Leo's retainers again but sure, okay.

I think less than half of the girls in Fates ended up married after three routes. Revelation was mostly repeats, it seems.

A band of thieves has been prowling around my manor lately. They've heard that I'm storing some precious Nohrian objects here. I consider myself quite a collector of cultural items. So you must understand...

Wait, so when do they have time to do odd jobs back in Conquest? And why is Silas here? At least have Arthur here, since he's a supprot and fits the "Help the needy" role.

I doubt this matters much to great heroes like you. But to preserve Nohr's culture... Would you help?
Absolutely. For Nohr, anything! And we happen to have our best expert on thievery right here.

You traitorous turncoat. You are loyal to Corrin and Corrin only.

Oh! Who, little ol' me? Sure, I know a thing or two about manors and how to crack'em. I know how I'd break in.

Ah, then I place my trust in you. Thank you.

What the hell is that face

The pleasure is mine. Believe me. When I catch petty crooks in the act, they never fail to soil their breeches. It's always good fun to see fools brought low.

*Later that night*

They're outside in the shadows. And they'll be inside soon. Off with you. Or else you'll scare these jokers away.
I have faith in you, Niles. Now, be careful.
Oh, sweet faith! Best I not rely on that. I'm better under cover of darkness. Now, when will they...
Ah! That didn't take long.

You can't hide from me. Come out, come out, whoever you are. You call yourself a thief, blundering in here like that? You're a disgrace to your profession. Come on, show your face!

Apparently mixing Niles and Elise's hair produced...pink?

Nina?! What are you doing here?
Huh? Father?!
Hey, you should be in your Deeprealm. Where I put you.
Hmpf! You didn’t even notice that I broke out of there a ways back! I had to pursue my true calling. That of chivalrous thievery!
Huh? Chivalrous thievery?

Oh, Niles is one of those dads. The "lock up and throw away the portal key" type.

I steal from the rich. I give to the poor. The creep who owns this manor is one of the richest. So here I am. You wouldn’t believe how he's gotten his hoard of treasures. Not that you'd care.
Wait! None of that matters. What's the one thing I've told you, again and again?! No stealing. And all of your jabber about rich and poor doesn't matter!

Ooh, it's been a little while since we had a "No, screw YOU, dad" kid.

Now, let me go...Father.
No. I'm here to round up a bunch of filthy thieves, Daughter.
Hmm. Fine words from one of the filthiest of them.
How dare you, Nina. Now, come with me.
Back off! I'm not going anywhere with you. I'm on the side of right. Out of my way! *hits Niles*

Apologize, now. That might make things right between us. Though I'm still going to make sure you're punished.
You can't make me! And you can't CATCH me! *runs away*

*A moment later*

My friends! Burgle quickly! They're onto us—just grab and go!
Nina, stop. You've deluded yourself that you're on the side of right.
I've dreamed about this, Father. Draining the coffers of the wealthy! Vindicating the poor! We're getting what we need, and then getting out.

Either fighting invisible people or helping the master's sister get a chair. Depends on the month.

Pfft! Don't answer. I don't care. Good-bye, Father.

This chapter is a bit of a timer, but at the same time easy to win. The real objective is to defeat Nina, and then the rest of the enemies will run away. Easy peazy.

Tae
Oct 24, 2010

Hello? Can you hear me? ...Perhaps if I shout? AAAAAAAAAH!

So here's Nina, though without Rally Skill equipped. This is odd considering Niles already learned it.

Well, the reason why is because I unequipped it before entering the paralogue. See, Nina is programmed to go for treasure and then run away.

However, if she has a rally skill equipped, she instead rallies and then runs away, which makes it much harder to catch her.

Shiro is going to plink some Adventures for free EXP while the rest of the team head towards the center and catch Nina.

Nina in her default state will take a few turns to reach the door, open it, open the chest, and then exit out. Her using Rally cuts out like 5-6 free turns to get her, as you can see.

As it's the last time we'll see Conquest style enemies, let's remind ourselves how goddamn annoying enemies with skills were. No more Poison Strike Ninjas, no more Wary Fighter, and no. more. Seal Defense.

There's a few Adventurers alongside Nina that'll loot chests and exit the stage ASAP. Not shown that are looted at the same time are a Partner Seal and 3k gold.

The only item I really care about is the Shining Bow, so I used Beruka's Lunge to switch places with a Sorcerer to reach the Shining looter. Beruka's safe from him since his priority is escaping above all else.

Hana disagrees

This moment might scare people going in blind, because the music stops and the death jingle plays here. Like I said before, killing her is the objective.

Here's where I just press end turn repeatedly, because defeating Nina turns all the enemy AI into "run to the exit."

You can rush to Nina and park a General or someone with high defense as she's looting the Goddess Icon so you have infinite time to beat the map. But I'm pretty overleveled at this point so I just let them go.

We're done! The reward is...Revelation's story. Whee.

Nina, it's over. Now you're going to get what's coming to you.
We have wildly differing view on justice. Do your worst, villain.
Huh? I'm not half the villain you think I am. Why, not even a tenth.
I spit on your idea of villainy then.

VISIT YOUR drat KIDS

You shouldn't be surprised that we're different as night and day. So take out your weapon. Do what you must, villain.
Stop saying that.
Arghh! Just do it already!
Wait! This foolishness must end. Come with me, Daughter.
No! Never.
Listen—how can you just throw your life away? How can you say that I never had a care for you?

It was out of LOVE. That's why I never visited you. Out of LOVE.

Because I wasn't worth your time!
No. I would have kept you near as my dearest treasure. I didn't want you to get caught up in the fighting of our time. I wanted you to be safe.
My world does terrible things to people. I have endured it all. But if something happened to you, it would have been the end of me.
...
I haven't convinced you, clearly.

Two years ago-"Hey, I bet Owain will be the greatest dad ever!"

"No way, you're crazy."

I wish you hadn't chosen a thief's life, but I can keep you from the worst of it.
You want me to join you? I won't abandon my cause. You're clueless about what I'm doing. The man who owns this manor...

This would've been an interesting side story or paralogue, instead of just being a backdrop for a kids mission.

He's swindled women and men of their life savings. One of the people in my group grew up in one such family. We demand justice!
And that leaves you and me only one way out of this.
Nina, please...
Father, I'll admit that I may have misjudged you—a little. I consider myself a fair woman, so I'll give you one last chance. If you and your friends look into this vile man's dealings...

Well, this should be an interesting situation to tackle!

Yes, well, many people misjudge me. But I've done the same to you. I promise to do better, starting now. We'll do what we can here.

*Time passes*

Leave it to me to turn a standard manor mission into a family crisis.
No, don't worry. Besides, thanks to Nina, we exposed what was going on.

Oh...we just...solved that off-screen. Okay.

We should be thanking your daughter. I know Corrine feels the same.
Ah, really? What a relief. I hate airing my dirty laundry in public.

*At a distance*

...

The fellow my father is talking to...not bad...not bad...

Uh...excuse me?

Huh? Daughter? What is it? Silas believes that you're staring. Do you need something?
Nope. Nothing. I'm just fine. You two just carry on.
Yeah, fine. We, uh, will. *leaves*

Nina is into boy love. What do you call it...*looks into slang terms*

Daydream is...very situational in practice for little benefit considering her stats and role. She is basically a mage with the Shining Bow equipped, and her resistance is so sky high that she doesn't need the stat boost to fight other mages.

The only real advantage Nina has over an actual mage is that she has the ability to KO fliers and switch to physical bows against the absolute toughest mages. Still a good unit, but not absurd like say Velouria or Shiro.

It's too late, Nina. The gross part of me is in you, too.

Hello? Can you hear me? ...Perhaps if I shout? AAAAAAAAAH!

A dozen kids later, the group finally moves on from Scarlet's death.

You will appreciate the dumbess of some of the paralogues in hindsight.

It was quite friendly with the other kingdoms of the world... In fact, it wasn't unusual for royalty from Nohr and Hoshido to visit.
What? But I've never even heard of Valla. You're saying that my father—and King Garon—were aware of this land?

Uh wait, you mean like thousands of years ago, right?

Everything dumb in these plots go back to Valla somehow.

But when the Silent Dragon Anankos seized power, this land was changed.
Azura, how is it that you know so much about this kingdom?
...
I suppose I should explain that, as well...
Come with me. There is something I wish for all of you to see.

I can't believe this is actually going to be a big reveal.

Yes. It looks identical to the one that Father worships.
This is a statue of the Silent Dragon Anankos. Each of the kingdoms has a dragon associated with it.

So why is he called the "Silent" dragon? Are you saying the Dusk and Dawn dragons will one day rise against their kingdoms?

He was gifted with unlimited knowledge and foresight. He was also the dragon that gave his blood to the ancient Vallites.
But then...why would Father worship him, rather than the Dusk Dragon?

I have never seen anyone pray to a dragon god. Is Azama a Monk of the Dawn Dragon faction? We don't know!

I'm sorry to be the one to tell you... It's doubtful that there's anything left to the true King Garon.
What do you mean?

Who killed Garon? Did Anankos did? Anyone?

His presence, even in short periods of time, is very corrupting. Anankos's magic is likely all that keeps King Garon alive at this point. He is nothing more than a servant.
I can't—
Anankos is using King Garon as a puppet to create wars and destroy the world.
That's not...
I don't want to believe it, but that would explain Father's strange behavior... That damned dragon is going to pay! Why is he doing this?!

And here I thought Anny just wanted friends.

With them ruined, he can conquer the other kingdoms with little resistance.
Some of you have already encountered invisible enemies outside Valla. Those are soldiers of Valla and servants to Anankos. With his magic, he is able to send them from Valla to other places. He used them to make Hoshido and Nohr believe they were attacking each other.

Why is this a thing that only happened on this route? Especially since we've now established that these Valla soldiers can straight up ignore Mikoto's pacifier barrier. Why make it so complicated??

...Exactly like what happened to us in Cyrkensia.
Ah! So for us to save the world...we have to defeat this Silent Dragon!
Correct. That's our ultimate goal.

Azura should've slapped him in the headgear for even being proud of that.

I have only one question, Azura, since you know so much about these events... Who are you, really?
...

OH MY GOD!!

What?!
Then you're originally from this kingdom? Belonging to its royal family, no less?
Yes, though there is no longer a royal family to belong to...

My mother took me and fled.
Everything I have told you about Valla I learned from my mother during our exile.

...Wait, hold on. She's saying Anny taking over Valla was a very recent thing, like in the last 20 years. But she said Hoshido and Nohr royalty used to visit Valla a lot before. Why did no one know about this?

Why didn't Orochi or even Yukimura know about this?

Yes. That's why we couldn't explain things until we got here.
I see... Then our mission is clear. We must unite to defeat the Silent Dragon Anankos.

...We literally confirmed that like a minute ago.

Hoshido and Nohr... Working together...
Is something bothering you, Prince Ryoma?
Actually, yes...

The hell? A person?

That person's being chased! We have to do something!

*The boy approaches the group*

Hey, remember chapter 15 of Conquest where you copied your party? Well, it's Revelation's version except with 9 characters.

I'm just going to use the lowest level guys cause I don't want to poll 20+ names for this small of a deployment line.

BIG STATS UPDATE: HERE

Hello? Can you hear me? ...Perhaps if I shout? AAAAAAAAAH!

Nina is just reminding me how absurdly good Sakura was back in Birthright. Strength, speed, magic, everything.

These kids...are not good for the most part. I really need to change classes for some of them.

We have to hurry to the other end of this area as fast as we can.
Hmm... There's something strange about the Dragon Vein here...

I'm not sure what will happen if we use it... Maybe it will let us act elsewhere?

So, same basic idea as Chapter 15 of Conquest except a little more complicated. A few tips to be reminded of:
-Any character's damage is the same to both. Which means you can have someone charge in for an attack, then heal up safely on the other side with a vulnerably.
-Switch weapons without worry. Siegfried can strike with a stronger weapon before his top self switches back to a Guard Naginata or Javelin on defense.
-Not applied, but Azura's replica can't use dance so this is one of the few times where she's not great.

Velouria is one of the few good units in general on the roster. Being able to one-shot Sorcerers is a rare thing among my available roster, which is...bad.

Now begins the actual mission.

Not with your stats, buddy. 21 speed and 18 defense at your level is almost Hinata-like.

Reinforcements that immediately aggro will spawn from the boss's location every few turns. It clogs up things, but 20 turns is still more than enough time to get everything.

I'll take Resistance I guess? And the 5k gold.

Rhajat at least has a clear focus and excels on it, unlike Siggy. Her victim drops his Ragnorak.

In case you didn't guess, this is one of those 20+ item drop maps. Kinda like chapter 10 back in Izumo.

Sig and Velouria take down a batch of Archers and a Maid for Steel Yumi, Mend Staff, Illusory Yumi, and a powerful Soldier's Knife.

The top enemies don't have any items, so there's just less going on for the originals. Hisame is...okay, but he doesn't have super insane speed like Hana to really make him dangerous. Just annoying.

Nina, could you please reach 19 in either attack stats before giving me these awful levels

For once, Saizo's been super helpful now that he's facing Revelation enemies instead of the horror show that were the Conquest paralogues.

A Steel Sword and Thunder were picked up in the meantime.

30 strength already, so strong.

A little busy here, but Corrine debuffing everyone heavily makes it no more than stepping stones.

Results of Skirmish
Steel Katana, Bolt Axe, Steel Axe, Hammer

Siegbert-STR/SKL/SPD/LCK

Rhajat-MAG/RES

Iggy, dude. Come on. Gain some strength.

Good level, Saizo. You might finally reach that mystical 20 speed, you slow-as-hell ninja

A lot more, the same more.

A bad level?! Oh no!

Corrine debuffing everyone yet again, gets her a great level. Wow, 23 strength at level 10. She's really taking it to the extreme of how blah you can be while clutching on to Draconic Hex.

Results of Skirmish

Nina-HP/MAG/RES
Saizo-HP/MAG/SPD/LCK
Ignatius-STR/SKL/SPD
Velouria-STR/SKL/SPD/LCK

Congrats Saizo on hitting 20 speed. :toot:

Heart Seal, Killing Edge, 5k gold, Steel Club, Dual Club

Whew, lots of good stuff. Probably like 60k in total for this map. The dual weapons alone cost a ton of cash.

The top half is now going to chill and chew on some Vulnerary candy if their replicas get too hurt.

...Well, 30 magic. Definitely more Nyx-like than Hayato.

This would be slightly more threatening if it wasn't for the fact that Velouria laughs at even a Beast Killer at this point.

Results of Skirmish

Hisamee-STR/MAG/LCK/DEF
Nina-MAG/SKL/LCK/RES
Siegbert-STR/SKL/SPD

I just noticed that Nina has only 17 skill. What are you GOOD at, girl??

Beast Killer, Dual Naginata, Friendship Seal, Dual Yumi, 10k gold

Seigbert eliminates a Swordmaster to get his Practice Katana. Rhajat gets a Killer Axe off a Hero. Now just the boss is left.

And then Siggy gets a Bolt Naginata to complete the massacre.

You...were a page to Anankos?

Already questions on why a dragon needs a page.

Everyone is force to work as his slaves. I served at his side, but... He's not normal. There's something almost demonic about him.

...Um, you're saying Anny is NOT a murderous dragon bent on destruction? I guess he was born way after Anankos killed Valla's previous king and then chilled...?

I couldn't take being near that violent tyrant anymore. After a lot of careful planning, I was finally able to escape.
That explains why you were being chased. But if you were a page to Anankos, does that mean you know where he is?
Of course. I've spent years serving him.
All right! A lucky break! We'll be able to go straight to him!

Yep! Get back to your trauma, kid

Yes. Well, more accurately... We're here to defeat him. Please, Anthony. Can you lead us to where he is?
D-defeat him?! I don't think it's possible to do that! He's too powerful... And besides, I only just finally got away...
I'm truly sorry to ask this of you... But if you take us to him and we prevail, you won't have to worry ever again. Would you please help us?
... Yes... All right... I'll help you.
I'm tired of running.

Easy enough. I think this is the first actual person we've seen. Azura made it seem like everyone died as soon as Anny took over.

*Meanwhile*

Oh, it's that guy that started this whole entire mess of a war.

Hello? Can you hear me? ...Perhaps if I shout? AAAAAAAAAH!

Young Man is a bit ambitious. Dude's a brat at best.

Also, this ain't subtle for shiz

This looks like tedious trouble already.

We'll have to get past this area in order to reach Gyges.
Hang on a second!! Why are there floating islands?!

You just noticed this now??

My, now that is interesting... I'm guessing that we can use those bridges to cross between the floating islands.
Those bridges look pretty old, though... You don't think they'll...break...do you?
No, this is the direction I came. We'll be all right! Probably.

It's been a long time since we've seen Shanky Shank Hinoka unleashed.

It looks like there are enemies stationed in our way, too...
But if this is the only path, we'll have to move forward.
If it will reassure you all, I'll cross this bridge first! I know it's safe, but I'll prove it to you!
What? Hey! Get back here! Don't run off!

*Anthony runs across the bridge*

Look, everyone! It's fine! Follow me!
Hmm... I suppose it looks all right. Let's go.

*Most of the party cross the bridge*

The bridge is collapsing! We have to go!
Everyone, cross quickly!!

*The bridge collapses under Takumi*

Prince Takumi, take my hand!

*Leo pulls Takumi up*

Their love of chess shogi soup is too ironclad to break now

Phew, thanks. You saved my life.
Wow, that would have been a long drop...
That's what you say? How are you so calm after what just happened?
Anthony, we need to talk. Right now.

What you would have heard if you played this was Anthony giggling just now.

*enemy forces assemble*

Hang on, Xander. The enemy is approaching. Corrine, everyone—get ready for battle!

Revelation is quickly ramping up punishment for people that don't bring enough Royals or fliers, cause this is basically a Dragon Vein puzzle. If you only have Corrine and no fliers...welp.

So here's the big cut here and I have no easy solution because I don't want to resort to 10+ names per post. I have 23 characters not including Corrine, and the max deployment for the rest of the game is like...15 at best.

My answer is to have either mostly kids with the remaining slots be voted in from 1st generation or vice versa: http://www.strawpoll.me/13767421

For reference again, here's the roster: https://lpix.org/sslptest/index.php?id=148732

Tae
Oct 24, 2010

Hello? Can you hear me? ...Perhaps if I shout? AAAAAAAAAH!

Kids with guests was the vote method of victory for the rest of Revelation. Coincidentally, there's enough slots for all the kids this mission. If nothing else, it makes them stronger since I can start forging all the extra weapons since I don't have to spread my slots as much.

A good thing about this choice is that every third character is a healer, so I'm never going to worry about being half-dead again.

We should be able to use them to get to the other side.

Give and Take is the name of today's gimmick. Dragon Veins switch one bridge to another, opening a path while closing at the same time.

Generally, the best path to this Boss kill mission to save time is to go clock-wise. That's the best loot and fastest path to the boss.

Oh Ninjas, you used to be the most terrifying thing in the world. Now you're just really fast people with meh strength without Poison Strike or Lunge tactics.

One small note is that since the bridges transport instead of disappearing, it takes whoever's won them with it. This can be used offensively like now to pincer attack units, or defensively to have units retreat safely.

There are some Kinshi Knights that immediately aggro and are the only "active" threats, but their stats are really poor with low attack and no Darting Blow to compensate. There's no real incentive to rush in, so it's a pretty chill map honestly.

There's one Hammer General in the mix, which just means use Dragonstone to turtle. That's maybe the only other real twist.

Some good levels to start off with, which is all I have at this point because fighting Generals is uh...not exhilarating.

In hindsight, Seigbert's speed is good if Master Ninjas, the fastest units by a mile, barely double him.

Although you can see why I'm severely disappointed in Siggy.

This is the real prize of the mission, one of the best S rank weapons.

The middle island has one mage and the rest are Great Monks. Not exactly the most threatening thing for Shiro to solo.

When you get near the boss, those Malig Knights start getting active and head towards the party. Unfortunately for them, their gear is kinda rear end with dinky Thunder tomes that barely deal 7 damage to meh resistance.

More levels. Good for Nina as she is going both routes for power. Selkie is....well, she already has everything.

More Generals. All the Generals. Rhajat and Nina basically had a field day here.

The boss is somehow less threatening than her mooks. Yes, she has Darting Blow but she doesn't move. Even Revelation at times knows to give the early mercy rule.

Rhajat, if your gimmick is magic+speed, do the speed part more often.

Here's the rest of the map that I'm going to skip, because it's basically just EXP, A Wakizashi, and Dragonstone+. Also some silver weapon drops but you know my thoughts on Silver weapons at this point.

More skill is always good. Goddamn that strength.

This is where all their 3D budget went.

That over there is the royal capital of Valla, the stone castle Gyges.
What a foreboding place... How are we going to get inside?
Well, the main entrance is always guarded and locked up tight, so that won't work. But I know about a back entrance. It's how I escaped in the first place! I'll gladly show you where it is.

Xander being suspicious? Say it ain't so! Though justified for once.

What are you talking about, Xander?
Anthony, it was you that made that bridge collapse, wasn't it?
Why would I do something like that?! You all saved me from those soldiers!

His child-killing tendencies are rising again! Elise, hide!

AHHHH!
Xander! Stop!
Stand aside, Corrine... Why are you protecting him?

The...teleporting bridge?? That floats on air?

It's hardly surprising that it collapsed under our weight.
I don't know... I agree that Anthony is rather suspicious. He might have joined us intending to mislead us.
I agree—that seems entirely possible. Corrine. You should listen to Xander on this.

This is very consistent. For better or for worse.

*sigh*
Hmph. Corrine, you're just as naive as ever. However... Your ability to believe in people, no matter what, made this army possible.
You think so?
Of course. Neither myself nor Prince Ryoma could have unified our forces. We're each too suspicious of the other. It's you, Corrine.

You are the one who unites us.
But I will say this. Your tendency to believe in people is also your greatest weakness. You must remain diligent and aware, or someone may take advantage of you.
All right. I understand, Xander.

Tae

Hello? Can you hear me? ...Perhaps if I shout? AAAAAAAAAH!

The group nods their heads as Xander's child murdering tendencies calmed down.

Really couldn't come up with anything else, huh.

Probably the only time you see 3d models of people just hanging out.

What the hell, Anthony has a character model?!

Um, Corrine... Could I talk to you for a minute?
Hello, Anthony. Of course. What's wrong?
After what happened at the bridge, it seems everyone is very wary of me. I'm worried that when we reach the back entrance they might not follow me.

Cool, thanks dude.

Wait, what's the catch

That way everyone can get in easier, and it won't feel suspicious.
But the castle must be filled with troops. You'd be in incredible danger going alone.
I know it's risky, but I think it's the only way that everyone will trust me.
And if we got attacked while sneaking in, I'm worried I'd be blamed for it.
Don't worry, Anthony. I know what we can do to make sure you get through safely.
What's that?

Oh right, the catch is Corrine being Corrine

What? You'd come with me, even though your friends don't trust me?
Of course. But I need to go prepare first—once I'm ready, we can head out.

*Some time later, the two enter the castle*

We have to—this is the only way to get to the back entrance without being seen. After these ruins is a forest, and then we'll be there!
Ah, I see. All right.
...
Corrine, thank you for coming with me. It really means a lot that you feel like you can trust me.

It does feel like Birthright was oddly made by a different team, because the only real mistake that Corrin made trust-wise was Zola. And Zola made a really absurd plan to fake being a good guy by taking a hit.

It's certainly helpful. It makes you an excellent leader. You'd make a fine ruler.

Betrayed??!?!?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!

Anthony?

*Anthony stabs at Corrine*

Ah!
Heehee... Hahahaha! Thank you for believing me! It'll be so much easier to kill you without all those friends!

*Enemies teleport in*

Of course he was! I've been ordered to kill every member of your group! Starting with you. After all, you know what they say about cutting off the head... Your friends won't know what to do without you around to lead them!
I think you underestimate them, Anthony. And you underestimate me, too.
Ha! What are you talking about? Like lambs to slaughter, they'll follow me into a trap when I tell them you're missing.
Unless I left behind a message for them before we set out.
...A message?!

Wow, a back-up plan?!

But that means...you never trusted me at all!

Oh my god, kill him. Kill him now.

I wanted to, Anthony. I really did. That's why I'm sad that things have turned out this way.
Don't think that means I won't fight you with everything I have, though! The least I can do is thin your numbers so that my friends have an easier time.

*Corrine solos for a bit*

Now!! Everyone, attack at once! Kill her!

That's—!
Corrine, you should know by now that we won't leave you to fight alone!
Takumi! You followed us?!

Yeesh... We told you we thought Anthony wasn't trustworthy. Though I suppose now is no time for "I told you so"!

Good ole suspicious younger brothers.

*Ryoma, Xander, Gunter arrive*

You're safe, milady! Thank goodness.
Please don't leave us behind!
You're all here!

*Xander and Ryoma double-team Anthony*

Blast it!
...Ughhh... What...? Wh-what's...happening?! King Anankos...please... Why...why are you... I...can still...defeat...
No...no...please...please...please don't... Not... GAAHHHHHHH!

...Anny, you got some weird fetishes.

Today's gimmick is Evolution/Devolution. Enemies that go on blue rooms unpromote, while red rooms promote them. That means if a Maid enters a blue room, they turn into a Troubadour and their Daggers are now useless.

All the kids will be present, alongside two guests from the 1st generation.

Someone wanted Sophie to be a flier, so she's now a Wyvern Lord. This also makes her gimmick on taking care of Avel more out of place.

Or maybe the horse is now just a wyvern.

Whatever magic transformed Anthony is all over these ruins. It's extremely dangerous. I wouldn't be surprised if it started changing the other enemies, too.

Only thing to add is that enemies only demote/promote after their turn. So baiting enemies into the blue tile won't prevent them from attacking at their highest class. Just a tip before you bait five Swordmasters.

I'm going to be honest, the class gimmick is kinda not that interesting in practice. If you take out the gimmick, it's just a bunch of cubes with very scattered enemy placements. And the blue just makes the enemies easier to kill, since fighting them on a red doesn't change what we've been doing so far.

Bait with Shiro/Selkie/Corrine, kill demoted enemies, repeat, repeat, repeat...zzzz....

Oooh, another Shining Bow. Gonna merge that to boost Nina's power.

A Swordmaster pops up on the right, the first of many reinforcements that show up. But they spawn so far away at times, that it doesn't really add much.

Nina opens up the chest on the middle left, which contained some Boots. I already gave a pair to Velouria since she doesn't have range options.

Maybe Nina will eat one, to feed the eater of chests.

I wonder why the decision was to completely blanket out enemy skills

I mean, clearly they still had the data from the Conquest paralogues. It's not like adding just Poison Strike would've broke the world or anything. Having either Lunge or Poison Strike wouldn't be the biggest pain in the world, it's having both that kills units.

Was the Before Awakening DLC made by the Conquest team? Or was it simply a matter of time that prevented it?

Oh, I guess here's Anthony. Bulky, has that annoying freeze skill, and he moves if you get in his room. This is actually annoying because it's a Kill Boss room, and I want those treasure chets.

The top chest had a Barb Shuriken. The bottom left chest is the S rank axe Arugelmir. Yeah, Revelation's throwing an S rank or two every mission now. I can maybe get one S rank ready with enough Arm Scroll buys.

Anthony's worthless Faceless butt kills himself on Dwyer despite me trying my best to avoid it. Oh well, the bottom chest was only a Master Seal so it could've been worse.

You're lucky that Anny sucks at map design.

There is no need to apologize.
What do you mean?
Anthony tricked you the only way he could be sure would work. That's all.
Don't you agree, Prince Xander?
Hmmm. Corrine, I told you before.

Wait, are people finally telling Corrine to stop doing the trusting thing??

Never mind

And then...I wouldn't be able to follow your lead anymore.
So basically, you need to keep on believing in people.

I'm glad the morale of the story is that to trust literally everyone, because Ryoma and Xander will kill those that betray that.

Xander, Ryoma... I can't express how much your words mean...
Yeah! What he said!
I'd do anything for you, Corrine!
Don't worry. I will always trust you. And I will always love you.
*sigh* Heh. I suppose I'm in, too.
You've gathered some strong, loyal allies, Lady Corrine.

Uh...why did only Ryoma say anything from Hoshido. How did Gunter get top billing over Silas or even Azura?

The Anthony saga was basically filler. Nothing new was learned other than to reinforce that Corrine is naive with her bloodthirsty brothers killing anyone that disagrees.

The greatest warriors of the land, folks

Don't worry, Corrine. Though it is long, we're on the right path.
You've been here before, then?
I'm not sure. I have very faint memories of this place. Some things feel familiar. I was young... Holding my mother's hand...

Once again, the take-over by Anny over Valla was no more than maybe 15 years ago if we're being generous with Azura's age. And Xander or Ryoma have no idea about Valla despite Azura's story otherwise.

Who goes there?!?!?

*A woman appears*

WHAT?! How...could this be??

Mother?! This can't be possible! You're—!

Faithful servant to the great ruler of this land, the mighty King Anankos.
No... A servant?
Of course. Everyone who lives in Valla is King Anankos's servant, knowingly or not. And while I was unsuccessful the last time we met, I will redeem myself today.
Mother... You were the mage we fought when we first came here, then...
...

I know you said that Anankos could turn the dead to his will, but this...
Unbelievable. We have to fight Azura's mother in order to proceed?
Azura... I can't imagine how this feels... Are you all right?
I'm OK. I know that this thing isn't my mother.

Well, at least Azura doesn't have trouble with killing her possessed parent. Hint, hint Nohrian siblings.

You know that, don't you?
"Mother." What nonsense...
...The only thing I know—the only thing I need to know—is this: You all must die.

...
Get ready, Corrine. Everyone else, too... Ready your weapons.
We're doomed if we can't get past her!

This map gimmick might seem familiar from way back in Birthright. This is Midori's paralogue of burning the trees via Dragon Veins.

Ooooor, you can skip most of this because fliers can just go through the middle and defeat Arete since it's a Seize map. And there's only Falcon Knights, no Kinshi Knights to curb this strategy.

Vote 2 for team; least voted is off permanently: http://www.strawpoll.me/13819325
