Soliciting recommendations from the VISUAL NOVEL EXPERTS that I've seen itt previously.

Hoping for a good "playthrough with your pals on the couch" title. Five of us sat down and went through Doki Doki Literature Club a while back, acting out the voices and all that. They had fun and mentioned wanting to do another one. Problem is, without having played them myself first, I have no idea what would be a good title. Any ideas for a similar experience? Doesn't have to be free. I was thinking Steins Gate would be good but apparently that's like 30+ hours which is too much. I think a good candidate would be doable in one or two sessions, and primarily involving either comedy or mystery over serious drama.

The Miskatonic is short, silly and has a lot of weird characters to act out.

I recently played Yooka Layle and thought it was delightful. Some minigames and bosses were lovely but that wasn't enough to ruin good time.

I recall a funny post pointing out that lord of terror spends 90% of time quietly biding his time, genius tactician demon keeps calling you to explain his plan and prince of lies fails to fool anybody and then turns into a dinosaur.

I don't think this was deliberately funny at all though. At best they intended the fat boss who lets out a long fart when he dies to be funny.

first you have to use a specific item that turns on multiplayer, then when you're invaded huge text shows up on your screen to say YOU HAVE BEEN INVADED BY PLAYER eldenbonglord420, and the invader's entire body is a glossy neon red color that you can very easily see from maximum view distance. There's also a cheap infinite-use item you can use that invites other players to automatically get summoned to your world to help you, and they get a beacon that shows where the invader is to make it extra easy to find them. That's on top of the player probably already having 2 coop friends with them, since the only people complaining about invasions have no reason to turn on multiplayer aside from the benefit of coop.

The entire invasion experience is completely voluntary, yet in a game series known for its optional invasion mechanic people still manage to bungle their way into whining about invasions on reddit lol it's astounding. It's so stupid that it makes me wonder if they're experiencing NPC invasions that happen at specific points in the game and thinking that they're real players lol

Sounds like a bad game. Maybe one day From will be able to make a good game like Sonic Adventure 2: Battle
