South Carolina is very bad and Chad Holbrook needs to be very fired, but he's safe because he's Ray's handpicked successor and we somehow managed to make a super regional last season. Hopefully I only have to watch one more year of him repeatedly slamming a Ferrari into a brick wall.

Chad Holbrook did us a favor and resigned, thank god. He's a class act of a guy who was really active in the community, so it sucks it didn't work out, but unfortunately there's a little more to coaching than just that. I'm really curious and excited about this search -- Ray Tanner implied he's willing to write a blank check, and we should have no trouble attracting some big names.

Kevin O'Sullivan is rumored by several reputable sources to be our top target right now, which is a little hard to understand for several reasons. It'd be a largely lateral move for him and he's already getting paid a shitload, but he has been frustrated with the lack of fan/administrative support for his program and may not feel as loyal (for lack of a better word) to Florida's new AD. Of course, if UF finally breaks through and wins it all this year, there's a 0% chance of him coming here. Clemson's Monte Lee, who probably would've already been our coach had the timing worked out, is supposedly not quite out of the running either. Again, I don't believe it would happen, but stealing him from Clemson would be absolutely incredible.

Mark Kingston is anti-bunt so I love him already. In all seriousness, this hire is a bit underwhelming on the surface, but he's supposedly one of the best up-and-comers out there. More to the point, we should be able to trust Ray Tanner's opinion on baseball, of all things. I'm mostly just glad he's a head coach, because we already went the "elite assistant" route and saw where that got us.

LeeMajors posted:According to all my Gamecock friends, O'Sullivan was a 'done deal,' so I'd bet there's a lot of broken hearts in Cola. That never made sense to me or seemed even remotely possible. I know O'Sullivan has been really upset at the lack of administrative and especially fan support at UF, but otherwise, he's in a great situation -- especially now that y'all finally broke through and won a title. He's also very, very well compensated despite that lack of support, so I don't know that we would have been able to offer enough money (or even that we should have, because it would've been a ridiculous sum). The "done deal" stuff was just hysteria. I'm sure some people are still convinced it would've happened had LSU won, though.
