I got caught up, show is good. I joked during a SA simuwatch stream thing that the show's animation makes early RWBY look good but it's a good point that the show has a really solid aesthetic design and in game design, aesthetics > graphical fidelity; but the fight scene between Lion and Moose was pretty decent, and I felt sold on the animations in the recent episodes. I kinda wish that Bag-chan had some skill in kendo beyond flailing, but I guess being essentially Zhuge Liang incarnate in comparison to the Friends is fine. I got really confused with the Tsuchinoko girl as googling told me "Wait this is only a folklore creature?" are we going to see Dinosaurs, Dragons and Yokai too?  The fanart with the Friends being presumably intelligent talking animals instead of being Animal Girls reminds me of the Jungle Book. Serval is oddly dedicated in retrospect now in her desire to help Bag-chan, as all the other Friends just seemed to stay in their habitat and let Bag-chan go her merry way. I get the sense that "animal instincts" play a role in this but the Alpaca starting a cafe and the Bunny rabbit and the other Friend presumably chasing after Bag-chan I think makes it clear that this isn't the whole story. I wonder if we'll see a golden retriever Friend to join the party. I feel like "Man's Best Friend" is a bit of an omission. The alpaca actually spitting was amazing; and I was kinda shocked when I suddenly heard English being spoken from "Big Sis Lauren". Is this actually a kids show in Japan? I'm curious about the "Big brother/Sister X" during those segments.

The first episode of this is almost at 2 million views on niconico now, blowing everything else out of the water, and the ep 2~6 pack is the number one seller. (the number 2 seller is ep 6 by itself) I think it's breaking fanart records too; there's an absolutely absurd amount being produced. No, it's a late night show (though it's getting a rebroadcast on AT-X earlier in the evening). The big brother/sister thing is a pretty standard way of addressing people, though it does play into the "kids show" atmosphere the director/studio are cultivating for this.

I don't get why this show has taken off like it has, but it's fun enough, and I'm always glad for things that produce gobs of fanart. 5 episodes in, my favorite Friends are Toki for her singing, Serval for her surprising dedication and positive attitude, and Jaguar for being such a helpful swimming kitty.

just started watching the first episode, and I can already tell I'm going to like it. It was really neat of serval-chan to be like 'hey, you don't have to pant to cool off, and you're already rested up! that's really cool!' because humans ARE one of the few animals that are built for endurance - we're basically like terminators in that we can go for a really, really long time, to the point our signature hunting style is literally following prey until it exhausts itself. That's why we domesticated wolves - they're one of those other few animals that can actually sort of keep up with us. The little facts interspersed with character moments like that is pretty great, and I hope it keeps up.

Ep 7: I'm very disappointed they had owls as the appointed professors of the library. Contrary to the popular depiction, owls are actually not very smart as birds go. They should have gone with corvids instead, like a pair of ravens.
