Moreso most high profile one. There are a fair few romhacks that are pretty extensive, some of them actually being fairly good. I've not had a chance to really get into it but the recently DMCA'd then leaked romhack Pokemon Prism seems neat.

It might just be the Fallout fan in me but I think having Nuclear as a type is pretty cool, at least in concept. I don't imagine the game will actually handle it well at all, from what I've heard.

Oh, wonderful, an LP of a questionable, but shockingly thorough, Pokemon romhack! I had a great time reading the Pokemon Quartz LP in the archives, I look forward to the horrors that await us in this one.

Also, what is it about these romhacks that the "creator's self-insert professor" character always looks like a skeevy neckbeard? Between Baro and this joker, I'm noticing a pattern. You'd think at some point, somebody would have pointed it out, assuming more than one person worked on Uranium.

So do the kind of people who make these games only expect them to be played by people like themselves and OFS? Throwing busted garbage at the player to punish them for not being omniscient or doing exhaustive trial and error research seems to be a thing with a lot of fangame makers.

It's lack of thorough testing. As the creator(s) you are your own worst tester(s) because you know everything ahead of time and have formed an insular ideology around the project. That's why getting outside testers is absolutely crucial when it comes to releasing a game. But for fangames that's often too hard or your testers are your most rabid fans meaning they're probably just as bad a pick as you are or are just asking to test because it means they get to play the game a little sooner than others.

This is a common problem in romhacks (or in this case, a fangame) that aim to raise the difficulty. Typically, they're made by people who are really dedicated to the original game, and thus have a tendency to know all the game mechanics inside-out. Since you're gonna create the game you want to play, this means hackers have a natural tendency to build the game on the assumption that the player knows the game inside-out too.

Even if the game advertises itself as such, there's still a lot of work that needs to be put in to make it a well-designed game. Just the stat screen in the OP alone demonstrates pretty well that this is not a well-designed game.

Flash Fire, yes. Heatproof and Kingdra, to an extent? If you start with one, you might be able to win the slugfest, but if you don't, that thing's SpAtt is going to be way too high for anything to live.

I like "spec" better as an abbreviation for special. Abbreviating status seems unnecessary, but if you want it to be a consistent four letters then "stat" seems fine.

This is disgustingly true. Also I will point out, of all the pokemon Fangames I've seen, Sage probably looks the best. That's the 4Chan pokemon Fangame. This is likely because everyone on /vp/ hates themselves and thus, opposite of the typical fan-game issue of no vetting, no one is ever pleased.

I like this a lot better. Blues are nice but keeping it simple especially in the face of you having many of these for moves is probably the best choice. I also like "phys" "spec" and "stat" best for abbreviations. Or you could try adding the little icons for them from the games.

Heatproof only halves Fire damage and is mainly used for covering existing weaknesses. EDIT: I'm a goddamn idiot with no reading comprehension about spoiler policies. Sorry about that.

This is a key point. Far too many of these romhacks half-rear end the difficulty increase and end up terribly balanced. "Well, let's just fix Known Bugs A and B, raise boss stats by 20%, and call it a day." Uh, no. That makes the game harder but not necessarily in an interesting way.

All because you're shooting for Harder doesn't mean you throw balance out the window.

That reminds me that the actual reason I never got far in this game was that I could not get it to run worth a drat at all. It ran like rear end with both my intel graphics card (which seems odd given how lo-fi the game is) and my NVIDIA one. Good job, Team Uranium.
