If I remember right, this tripped Tie up a lot during the earlier parts of his streams and I can't blame him one bit. Even knowing which is which I still get confused by seeing it because it's just so terribly designed.

I do kind of like the Birbie having that "creepy" blue face painted on it that'd normally act as a way to ward of predators, and it distracts from it just being a small fat bird otherwise. It like almost works here, which is more than can be said for others.

ChaosArgate posted:Gen 2 kinda tried that with the ability to handle the Cianwood, Olivine and Mahogany gyms in any order, but they did so by having their levels be about the same, which kinda hurt Johto's level curve. Gen 1 lets you do Lt. Surge, Erika, Koga and Sabrina in any order as well... and even then you only need to do Koga before you can add Blaine to the list. Last time I played, I went Brock > Misty > Koga > Sabrina > Blaine > Erika > Surge > Giovanni. That was an experience, but it wasn't really difficult either really. Odd that there's nothing preventing it considering you get the ability to use Cut before you ever get Cut but since it's needed to access Surge, and all he gives is quick travel...

Not a surprise, since there is exactly one way you CAN play FFT1.3 and it's the most boring and tedious thing in the world. And doing anything else makes it impossible anyway. He doesn't exactly have a good track record by making entertaining things actually be, y'know, entertaining.

I think my least favourite thing about that ant is that it's just a straight Bug type?? Like the name is dumb and barely connected, because campsites I guess, but it could've been slightly more relevant by making one little change.

I dunno if its the 5th or 6th Gen, but I know one of them had the Champion specialise in Bug types which was a cool idea. I don't know how well it worked out in practice, though.

The tiny bat > giant hippo is pretty similar in that it just makes no sense at all. It's like the person who came up with that looked at Hippowdon, thought it made sense and that they wanted nothing to do with that. Why does a bat become a hippo?! This somehow bugs me more than the ball to a deer thing.

Lunapup appears only during the day? There has to be a Solarcat that only appears at night. Well there doesn't have to be, but there has to be. Also, Garlikid is totally going to be N But Worse. That's so blatantly obvious from that one scene, I'm surprised he's not just called "G" or whatever for the moment.

Indoor/Outdoor isn't even really all that different from day/night, on paper. It might be harder to pull off, but it's not like it's all that weird really. Status Effect is weird though. Or at least the fainted one is; that's not something you can stumble upon by accident.

In all seriousness, I'm fully expecting Garlikid being a bad N ripoff to be related to whatever's going on with the Evil Team Crew or their equivalents. When he inevitably turns up again, I think that'll probably help give some idea. Probably just a bad rehash of Plasma in all honesty, and maybe with added blaming of the nuclear plant for "corrupting" nature or whatever.Kurieg posted:I'm sorry what? Quartz.

The protagonists being better than everyone else is kind of A Thing in fiction you know.

Running Omniscient out of MP in a very time extensive strategy so as to prevent Resets, which, well, resets the fight back to the beginning. Not even remotely necessary with a White Mage (Berserk+Blink does the job infinitely better in this case!) but it's sure something all the same.

Silver Falcon posted:I'm not a programmer, so a lot of this is flying over my head. You're saying there's a way to have the game call a variable that says [Pokemon#blahblah] and then set #blahblah to whatever name. So, if you wanted to change what #blahblah was, all you'd have to do is change it once, and every time that Pokemon was called in the code, it would use the new name? And the Uranium guys didn't do that? You don't even need to do anything fancy for it. This is a default feature in pretty much every version of RPG Maker I can think of.
