As a kid I remember going to Blockbuster a lot with my dad to rent a lot of Xbox original games, and even earlier in time Family Video to look through their PS1 games. I remember renting a lot of racing games like Need For Speed Underground and ATV vs MX, lol. My dad would always get stuff like Splinter Cell or a lot of random JRPGs for the PS1 that I'll probably never remember.

When my friends would stay over we'd sometimes convince my parents to drive us to Blockbuster, and we'd always sneak off and snicker about the really dumb games like The Guy Game, Playboy Mansion, or the Leisure Suit Larry Xbox games. 4th grade was sweet. Eventually my dad stopped taking us there because it seemed like the discs were always scratched and would be unplayable. He'd get soo mad because it was a 40 minute trip there and back lol.

The summer of 2007 and 2008 a realllly lovely movie store opened up called Hometown Video. In my small town of about 2000 people, this place was right in the middle and within biking distance for my friends. It was connected to a used car lot, and it was ran by an extemely weird couple who were of course also used car salesmen. The video store probably couldn't have passed building codes had it ever been inspected, and it had really weird hours where it was only open from like noon until four. As for the movie collection, they never ever got anything new. These movies had to have come from an estate sale or something, and half of their movies were B movie VHS tapes. There was never another customer in there when I was, but they had this giant white board of people's names that said DO NOT RENT, which was funny because everyone in my small town knew one another.

Anyways, in the summer when our parents were at work we'd bike there and pick out the sleaziest and worst horror movies we could find, or at least something that seemed to promise a girl with her top off. This started on our first trip to the store when we mistakingly rented http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0382014/ instead of what I assumed was going to be a classic take on the HG Wells story I had just read earlier before school let out for the summer. (the cover wasn't present and the case had just read as Invisible Man) Anyways we popped the tape in and realized the place apparently didn't bother to card middle schoolers who wanted to rent softcore porn. That summer we spent renting a lot of really great classics like that and so bad they're funny movies like Troll 2, Frost Bite, Silent Night Deadly Night 2, Jack Frost, another bad take on an HG Wells piece called The Island of Dr Moreau, and a lot more.

The final nail in the coffin for us renting from there was when they let us rent one of those underground snuff horror films. It was always a dare amongst us to rent it, and one day we did. We were kids who grew up together where linking meatspin to your friends on myspace or changing their family's desktop wallpaper to goatse during a sleepover was common. Luckily we still had some sort of childhood innocence in us, and we shut off the snuff video (which was like a dude just ripping videos online of people and animals dying etc) before it ever got too gruesome.

My friends and I were pretty hosed up looking back lol. props to whoever reads this wall of text lmao

The last time I was in a Gamestop I was trying to buy Borderlands (lol, for the couch co op) and a steam card my senior year of high school and I left my ID in the car. The clerk refused to sell me the game, but said he could still sell me the steam card and proceeded to check me out. I stopped and said "I'm just going to buy these at Best Buy next door where they won't card me, dude" in a really cool high school kid voice. The clerk then had a melt down in front of everyone in the store yelling at me on how this is going to make him look like poo poo because his sales are down and he has a family to feed. I put my head down and sped out the door

In the last place I lived there was a GameStop across the street I frequented and I was the only person there to ever purchase a Vita game and there was a weirdo girl on staff who recognized me for it and kept trying to loudly sell me on softcore porno Vita visual novels whenever I stopped in so I moved out of state and changed my name.

Cannot believe you didn't pick up on her cues  but you own a vita sooo!!
