Would buying a copy with a more contemporary translation help, or is forgetting which character is which sometimes just to be expected when you read 20 pages of something every 2 weeks? The Constance Garnett translation isn't great and Dostoyevsky's got a bit of a reputation for using a lot of different names for his characters but, yes reading an average of a page and a half per day isn't a great way to immerse yourself in a book.
