We got stuck waiting all night in our 1151 on the north entrance of the Salang Tunnel while the rest of our trucks and the dozen or so jingle trucks we were escorting were stuck in snow on the other side. Pretty drive up there though.

This guy shared a b hut with me and we worked in the same shop at Camp Spann.

I was out with him running when he and another friend were killed. Another sailor was wounded as well. Of the five of us out running, two were unhurt. He got the silver Star for his efforts. I ran past the shooter maybe a minute before he decided to shoot.

I have all these memories of amazing scenery and people in Afghanistan, but they all get pushed aside because one of the best people I ever knew got shot by some nut cause he tried to help. He was there to rebuild, not fight.
