Okay so just follow me on this for a second pretend this is you alright.Your in the star trek space ship and you want to drink a beer. No problem you go to the replicator and it replicates a space beer for you. You drink the space beer and then youre left wiht the cup. Then it sinks in. What hte hell happens to all the cups and plates and poo poo the replicator is constantly spitting out? Where does it all go and who makes it go there?

I got a theory that they just shoot it into space and it makes garbage nebulas and im 100% percent certain that ds9 throws it all in the wormhole so I already figured that part out.

What if the people who are using the transporter are in fact being killed but they're just recreated again? There's an endless holocaust going on in the universe of Star Trek.

This is one of the two reasons I won't use teleporters. There's no difference between using a transporter and someone assembling a clone of you from atoms.

Yeah they should just take all of the federation's garbage, and maybe the romulans and klingons garbage and throw it into the wormhole. Also dispose of dead bodies that way too. maybe a complex sewer system where everyone's poo poo and piss goes through a bunch of pipes into the wormhole

They usually drink synthehol. It's like alcohol but you only get buzzed and synthehol's "intoxicating effects can be easily dismissed." In case there's a red alert or something, nobody will be caught drunk off their rear end.

My brother says that they use their transporter to magic it back into replicator sauce but who are the garbagemen then?

Probably Jake has to do it because hes just a kid but imagine he fell into the garbage processor thing then everything that got replicated would have jakes face and look extremely 90s lol

I'm pretty sure all the transporter does is take an image of your molecular state and recreates it somewhere else. I don't think there's any reason why they couldn't make a bunch of copies of someone or bring them back to life using an old 'save' except that it would weird people out.

They recycle everything on a starship, all the food, waste, and holodeck jizz.

You would be eating Riker's recycled cum, along with of course his non-recycled cum.

Are you retarded? You put your dirty plates back into the replicator and it sends all the molecules back into storage for later use.
Though its never shown, I think that's how clothing is cleaned too. Dirty clothes go in the replicator, clean clothes come back. The dirt molecules are stored away for later use.

yeah, why doesn't someone like the Borg use this to replicate billions of copies of themselves and their ships and weapons?

This was the big finale of the awful 9/11 truther Star Trek movie, and it always seemed super bizarre to me that it didn't raise horrifying psychological questions for the whole crew. If Kirk was loving dead, and they replicated a Kirk that is not loving dead, isn't that a pretty huge flashing red alarm message that the transporter is killing and assembling clones all the time?

Yeah this seems like an interesting question, the whole transporter aspect of Star Trek raises some interesting questions about consciousness and life in general that's interesting to think about. It's weird to think that we might also accept a technology that useful and convenient of it existed in real life, even given disturbing philosophical implications.

Happened in Voyager too. Harry Kim died and they ended up getting another one from a copy of the Voyager.

The last time I had an internet philosophy discussion about this I basically came to the conclusion that while yes a transporter will kill you and create another you it doesn't matter because any continuance of being is probably an illusion anyway and your normal existence from moment to moment is probably an equivalent case.

I actually kinda want a Star Trek spinoff series that takes place on some rimworld or something and focuses on dudes who refuse to join Starfleet because transporters are glittery suicide booths from Futurama.

I disagree so strongly with this but it's almost an impossible argument to counter sanely. Still, I'm going to try: you can make the argument that the "me" that wakes up tomorrow is different than the "me" I am now, but sleep isn't death - I can remember my dreams, I can get up in the middle of the night to take a piss, whatever. Not only that, but I can recall likely triggers from the day that inform and shape my dreams. Ergo it's the same consciousness.

You lose whole atoms all the time, that are then replaced. You lose cells that are replaced. Your thoughts and mind changes all the time. Do you identify as the same person as five year old you? He was made up of totally different stuff and had totally different thoughts.

Truth is he's dead now, as are all the past yous, but it doesn't matter as long as there is continuity.

how come instead of yet another dumb episode where the holodeck characters come to life they never did one about a monster coming from the dirty dish molecules compartment and terrorising the crew

And you don't think that ripping all of your atoms apart and then reconstructing them somewhere else from different atoms might constitute a break in that continuity?
