Everyone has their own understanding of the world. America in the 1950's is perhaps the golden age of prosperity, social unity and sheer national power as well as benefiting from being directly after WWII but before the social upheaval of the Vietnam and Civil rights era. As our society has decayed people have turned, at least in part, to whatever Trump represents in an attempt to capture something of the old glory. In doing so, they empower the very same elements which have undermined and corrupted that greatness.
