I think its a bit of a generational thing. Anecdotally, a lot of baby boomers/older folks seem to genuinely believe that America is the best, full stop, and most younger people don't. I'm proud to be American and I'm not going to pretend to be Canadian or something when I travel abroad, but I'm not going to argue with you and act like my country is superior or anything like that. I think the only time I've been obnoxiously patriotic is during Olympics hockey.
