I was thinking something similar to FF7 or at worst snes era RPG style.

I'm not a retro fan but I do prefer gameplay over graphics. But not to extremes like dwarf fortress.

seriously dude septera core is right up your alley

Septera core is legit. The old dark sun games are actually cool as the missing link between the gold box and infinity engine.

If you want to play an actual FF game every single one except for 12 and 15 are available on PC

I started on the FF franchise with 7 and then I played 8 and that made me fall out of the franchise all together. I did go back and play Mystic quest and that one was great. Final Fantasy tactics is probably my favorite FF game of all time.

There was that "I am Setsuna" game that square was trying to sell as the next chrono trigger. I haven't played it and I remember it getting middling reviews, but it might be worth checking out.

I played it, and it's fine. It'll never be an epic classic but perfectly serviceable.

So you want an FF-like game but you've only played two mainline FFs

costume quest is an american attempt at a JRPG that has an adventure game element. i like it over all, but the combat gets old after a while.

I wouldn't say 8 is bad, but they break a lot of jrpg standards. Like I said, just play FF9.

i played a ridiculous amount of exile 3 as a kid and loved the whole series

the geneforge games are really cool but have visually aged horribly, if you can get past that theyre cool and unique

avernum 1 is completely unplayable because in the lategame monsters will cast greater summon monster and summon monsters that know greater summon monster. i had a battle towards the end of the game where it took roughly ten minutes for the first turn of battle's summoning to end with all the stuff set to max speed and sounds turned off

i havent played avernum escape from the pit but i keep meaning to

They replaced Sids cigarette with a toothpick in other media. I hope he gets it back in the new version.
