Welcome to the daily drawings/doodles thread!

Our theme for the foreseeable future will be birds!

There's just so much to love about birds, there's fluffy ones and there's pretty ones and there's terrifying soulless abominations and they all are descendants of the mighty dinosaurs.

So whether you love pretty birds..

tragic birds

birds with tiddies

lil tiny birds

or goofy birds

I encourage you all to find something you love about a bird and do art with it!

I'm also requesting that a mod change the thread name from BODE to BIRB thank you.

Every time there's something wrong with a pic, make the "artistic license" excuse. Didn't wanna finish? It's supposed to be like that, it represents the incompleteness of man. And the .. uh, sketchiness of society. Yeah. I mean, I can totally see how your picture says that old men haven't got a leg to stand on nowadays. :cheeky:

I just drew a cat and it's just.. it's the worst.

I've now done this twice since my pen has decided to start randomly lagging, which caused me to close the first picture I did without saving, and then gave me extreme frustration while I was doing this. But I really really wanted to do it because drawing guitars is sheer pain. HAHAHAHAHA EVERYTHING IS TERRIBLE.

Important info!

I think it was time we change the running theme so I've changed it from bodies to birds. I modified the first post accordingly, with plenty of bird-related pics and if a mod sees this could you please change the thread name from BODE to BIRB thank you.

This is Strychnine, from chickam this year!

There was this very special angel in an old manuscript with the wings growing straight outta the face of the angel and these weird lil beady mole-eyes. All the other angels were fine and had wings on their back.
I needed to draw it but it turned to argh when I tried to do an ornamental background "real quick". Do not recommend.

Aaah so refreshing to see watercolours but also I love the bear and how it's doing a thing you do with a paw (plop in basket) while doing a thing you do with a hand (holding the basket) and it's adorable :3:

I've wanted to do Rick & Morty fanart for a while but never got around to it, but now here's Bird Person

I'm not even sure if that's actually spelled all together or if Bird is his first name and Person the last or what.

I've got a Winsor & Newton Cotman set that I got forever ago and I can't find it on the net now, though they seem to do smaller similar pocket sets now. It's these little squares and I wasn't impressed until I got to try some at a friend's and daaaaamn.
The set was STUPID expensive when I was a young student, but I never even looked at those chalky cheap round bricks again with anything but the haughtiest *snort*

How do you even handle little tiny tubes of 10ml of paint? Do you just dab the brush in or what?

I did a vulture-rider.

Neon Noodle posted:

The Cotman line isn't even all that good in terms of pigment load. Get yourself some artist-grade watercolor tubes and make your own pans. I have a few plastic travel palettes with artist grade paint squeezed into the compartments. At home I have an enameled butcher's tray and I just squeeze little blobs of paint around the edges. It's OK if they dry, you can re-wet them.

The Acryla Gouache is a bit different. It hardens permanently so I just squeeze out a little bit at a time, either on a plastic palette or on a damp paper towel. Luckily Holbein paints are bizarrely cheap so I don't worry too much about the inevitable waste of paint.

You know, looking at the new ad pics I DID think they looked really watery. Is it possible they were loads better 20 years ago, because I had no trouble getting colours like this:

I've still got the set somewhere, they really lasted for years and years.
...maybe they just felt so good because compared to those round cheapo bricks that would not melt and gave you the palest hint of a colour, spitting on the paper might've given more pigment.

I will look at the tubes the next time I'm at the crafts store though, it's been too long since I did irl art. Thanks for the hint!

Meanwhile though, tablets are the future and these take up no room in the closet:
