I really like the stuff you've posted, Al!, out of curiosity, what program are you using?

its called aseprite. it's not really meant for this kind of thing, its more supposed to be used as a tool to animate sprites but i ended up using it. it makes animating things really easy, the timeline is well designed and the ui is v straightforward. i've been whipping things out of it p fast today

oh i have no intetion of going to the mouse as a primary device, it even made animating more diffcult. to be honest i was on a laptop in bed and too lazy to hook up the tablet

hey ddt i actually would like some advice

this is what im working on rn

the middle range of the picture is going to have fighters zipping in out, laser blasts etc.

the question is, should i put more detail into the forested hills? or would that make the whole composition muddy? how about the buildings?

Sharpest Crayon posted:

You can add detail to the hills (though I don't think it's necessary) if you make it subtle, choose a colour near the base colour and it won't pop out too much.
For the buildings, in this style of pixelwork I'd expect to see blinky lights at the building antennas at least, or windows or futuristic side-to-side lightfades. They're pretty dark and they draw the eyes to them, so you need some definition there even if you don't wanna do future techno partylights.

thanks for the advice. the buildings still need more work (also the power lines def but its closer to what i want now)

The first post pretty much tells the whole story, but here's the tl;dr:
Dude who made Homestuck ran a kickstarter to make a homestuck game, got 2,5 mil for it (my pennies landed on top of that pile), hired a games-making company to make his game who promptly dropped him like an old sausage when they got the chance to do King's Quest instead. Tons of money thus wasted, I think Homestuck dude prolly had a nervous breakdown or something. Never thought I'd see an actual game, yet it exists now, years late.

On a positive note, kanttarelli:

well that gives me hope for barkley 2 at least

however, one day i wanna get into aftereffects, it sounds like thats where the real crazy poo poo happens
