Hi Cspam. I don't usually post here, but BYOB is a no-politics zone because "chill" and "politics" don't really mix, so I'm venturing out of my home forum to share some information with you. Since the election I've been what I like to call "really pissed off" and I'm channeling all that "really pissed off" into actions. I've amassed a list of resources I'm going to share with you in case you're also "really pissed off" and want to do something with that pissed off besides chain chugging HoHos and bitching at people on Facebook. (Hey I'm not judging - that was my whole November) ----- Here's my list. If you have other resources please post them and I'll add them to the op. https://www.indivisibleguide.com - These guys are getting huge and very active. I'd say they're a good place to start https://www.moveon.org - Has been super active. They don't just have petitions to sign, they've started hosting "Resist Trump Tuesday" protests every Tuesday so you can look up protests in your area to participate in. They've also partnered with some other groups for larger initiatives and hold conference calls on Sunday nights to talk about accomplishments and areas of focus going forward. https://www.wall-of-us.org - you can sign up to receive weekly emails with actions to focus on (letter writing, phone calls, etc) https://www.grabyourwallet.org - is a group who is boycotting businesses who financially benefit the Trump family https://www.swingleft.org - This group is focusing on swing districts for the 2018 elections. You enter your zip code and they assign you to your closest swing district. So far they're in their organizing stage so they haven't had any work for us to do, but as we get closer to the election there will be action items to do to help win those seats back. https://www.solidaritysundays.org - is a great group for feminists against trump. They have local groups all over the country that meet one sunday a month. It's a great way to meet like minded women who can become your protest buddies. https://www.townhallproject.com - lists upcoming representative's town halls https://www.resistancecalendar.org - Tries to collect major resistance events actions from all these different groups into one location. https://www.roganslist.blogspot.com - You can sign up here and get regular emails with phone calls to make, postcards to send, and interesting things to read https://www.countable.us - Follows and reports on what congress is doing in a way that even a politics newb like me can follow. https://www.5calls.org - Gives you 5 suggested calls to make every day. They even include the phone numbers and a suggested script to make the call easier https://www.peoplepower.org - if you like getting in on the ground floor of something this is your project. The ACLU is starting a group of grassroots volunteers to take the fight "not just to the courtroom, but to the streets". Their first initiative is to encourage your cities to become "freedom cities" to fight ICE. https://www.flippable.org is focusing on getting more democrats in state level positions. http://www.peaceisloud.org/small-victories/ - for when you're getting burned out and think we're not making progress https://www.americanprogressaction.org/resistance-near-me/ - a comprehensive list of resistance events in your state. https://www.popvox.com/ - if you sign up to be on their newsletter they send non-partisan weekly summaries of US government activities. http://www.postcardsforamerica.com/ - i've added these guys on facebook and every morning i wake up to a couple of new postcards to send. some are to protest actions that are happening, some are to thank people who are standing up for us. it's a good way to start off the day. if you're a meetup user, meetup has set up resist groups in 1000 different cities. anyone who joins can add local events. you can find your meetup group here https://www.meetup.com/pro/resist/ ----- My intent with this thread is for us to share our efforts to help encourage others to get involved. Please share what you're doing, even if right now it just involves hiding under the bed eating HoHos.

i did see some people who had used sharpies to write their messages directly onto their umbrellas. I thought that was pretty smart plus had the added bonus of being perpetually in a state of protest everytime it rained

ok here's a thing that doesn't require standing in the rain if you want to file an ethics conplaint about a federal employee (say for example Sessions) the correct way to do that is by fax. they won't take telephone calls you can use https://www.faxzero.com to send a free fax Send to: DOJ Inspector Michael E Horowitz Fax #: 202 616 9881 Name of Offending Employee: Jefferson Sessions Date of Offense: 1/10/17 Location of Offense: Congressional Hearing Offense: Lying under oath

your "sit in your chair and make a difference" action of the day: look at your 3 members of congress websites and see if they've called for the resignation of Jeff Sessions. If they haven't made a statement calling for his resignation, call their office and ask that they do

i did 2 things today that were indoors and didn't involve signs. one was just a town hall meeting, but the one i want to talk about is the swingleft house party i went to swingleft is in the organizing stages but they're growing fast. They had 500 house parties all over the country this weekend to get people who have been assigned to the same swing districts interacting with each other. starting next month we'll be traveling to our swing districts and starting getting people registered to vote and talking to them about issues that affect them. at https://swingleft.org/ you can enter your zip code and they assign you to the closest swing district. on their website they have pages of documentation about those districts and the issues facing voters. they also have calendars for house parties working on the same district to share plans and coordinate activities. they are partnering with https://knockeverydoor.org/ to help train volunteers as we move forward. if knocking on doors isn't your thing there are other things you can do like working high foot traffic areas to register voters and working phone banks or recruiting new volunteers. it's a great idea - focusing on keeping vulnerable democrat seats and turning vulnerable republican seats during the 2018 election. if you're looking for a concrete way to change the makeup of the house starting in 2018, this might be the project for you.

here's another super easy thing you can do this week. on the 15th (the ides of march) drop a postcard in the mail to trump. the goal is to have literal trucks of mail drive up to the whitehouse with proof that people do not actually love the donald postcards can be any heavy cardstock (a notecard works). usps required dimensions are at least 3-1/2 inches high x 5 inches long and no more than 4-1/4 inches high x 6 inches long. Current postcard postage rates are 34 cents, but a forever stamp works if that's all you have. more info here: https://www.theidesoftrump.com/#theidesoftrump

also, today I'm going to an event called "hands around the mosque" where we'll all show our support for our local mosque and next week a group of us are going to a mostly immigrant neighborhood to hand out information flyers about what a person's rights are in case they're approached by ICE agents. you don't have to stand in the rain with a sign to make things a little bit better

punchbuggy posted:Yes! My friend and I attended a "hands around the mosque" event at the MCC EastBay (California) last month. It was actually raining, and it was a challenge to try to hold and umbrella while holding hands. I'm kidding, of course--it was fine to get a little wet. After rousing speeches by a Christian minister, a rabbi, the imam, and a high school kid, I was in tears. So many people came up to us to thank us for coming. The fact that we have to hold these rallies to support our fellow countrymen is ridiculous. thank you for teaching those kids to grow up to be responsible adults. there really isn't anything more important

Qu Appelle posted:I went to the local Equality/Pride March today, and marched in it for half the time - it was very empowering! I'm sorry things went sideways in Seattle. Ours was very peaceful and very powerful. There were maybe 30 of the bad guys and many hundreds of the good guys so just standing there was statement enough. A couple of Muslim women in hajibs went across the street and offered cookies to the bad guys. It was beautiful. On another note, congresspeople are reporting that calls and letters to their offices have returned to pre-election levels. In a week when the senate is planning an assault on healthcare this is just awful. Please take time to call your senators this week. https://www.5calls.org can provide you with phone numbers and scripts. Call every day. We need 3 republicans to be too scared to pass this thing.
