is there any particular reason farage is starting a fight against carswell?

It's what he does: he continues to see Ukip as his baby and can't tolerate rival power bases. He's done this repeatedly with individuals who became too prominent in the psrty.

Does the person get to pick it themself?

Could farage be Baron Farage of Ukip if he wanted?

Ken Loach has written a good article about why blaming the current state of Labour entirely on Corbyn is a ridiculously simplistic view at best. He talks about how neither of the recent candidates were willing to campaign with Momentum or attend their events, and how the PLP as a whole isn't just rebelling against Corbyn but rebelling against his policies. They refuse to talk about them, refuse to campaign on them, and won't even endorse them in interviews. The party is fundamentally paralysed while we have elected representatives who refuse to represent the membership.

Everyone should read this because it shows why it's important to elect a Labour leader who has the confidence of their MPs.

No it isn't, but it still tramples my bloody lavender.
Plenty of rumour that carswell is looking at re-defecting (double defecting? un-defecting? refecting?) back to the tories at the moment, but that would serve fartrage better than him, surely?

Carswell strikes me as one of those clever but naive people. He defected to Ukip on what he considered a genuine point of principle and has spent his time since then in ever increasing dismay and disbelief at the snakepit of poisonous incompetence that he gullibly leapt into.

I think Carswell is relatively popular on a local level and would retain the seat, especially given the general swing away from UKIP to the Tories as they move further right.

Trump's state visit has been postponed by the way.

When he first defected and won his seat's re-election, BBC went down there to ask locals why they voted for Carswell/UKIP and the response from one local was "because our previous MP was loving useless."

How strange that nobody sees the wonder in one another
Hey everyone, I posted this in the last thread as it was kicking off and some very nice anonymous person donated some money for the cause.

I'm raising some money for Asylum Justice by asking people to vote via cash (democracy through transparent payments, not sure what you'd call that?) to kill or save the beard through comments on their donations.

It closes at around 16:00 today (when I actually visit my barbers) and currently there's around 4 quid difference between the two so you can really make a difference, plus you know, good cause and all that. So by all means, vote away with the link below:

Dennis Skinner is older than Ken Clarke. Ken Clarke is father of the house because he's the longest serving MP. (Technically speaking, Clarke, Skinner and Kaufman all won their seats in the 1970 election but Kaufman was sworn in before Clarke who was sworn in before Skinner)

You don't have to 8e a good person to 8e a hero.
The Lords debates the Article 50 bill again today, with the remaining amendments grouped as such:

  • Northern Ireland peace process
  • Environmental protection
  • Impact assessments
  • Rights of EEA nationals.
  • Co-operation in Euratom
  • Negotiation priorities
  • Parliamentary scrutiny
  • Devolved matters

The most likely defeat for the Government would be on the rights of EU nationals, but Labour do appear to be pushing a lot on parliamentary scrutiny too.
