After Bannon, Sessions is by far the worst person in Trump's administration. Him resigning would make me feel a lot better about the world.

Of course, that still leaves Steve loving Bannon.

At his Jan. 10 Judiciary Committee confirmation hearing, Sessions was asked by Sen. Al Franken (D-Minn.) what he would do if he learned of any evidence that anyone affiliated with the Trump campaign communicated with the Russian government in the course of the 2016 campaign.

“I’m not aware of any of those activities,” he responded. He added: “I have been called a surrogate at a time or two in that campaign and I did not have communications with the Russians.”"

In January, Sen. Patrick J. Leahy (D-Vt.) asked Sessions for answers to written questions. “Several of the President-elect’s nominees or senior advisers have Russian ties. Have you been in contact with anyone connected to any part of the Russian government about the 2016 election, either before or after election day?” Leahy wrote.

Sessions responded with one word: “No.”

I suppose it depends what your definition of "Russian" is.

I think it comes back to what they knew and when. Roger Stone was all over Twitter bragging about impending leaks. Manafort and Page had the wherewithal to keep quiet, but were still ultimately outed.

It really depends on two things:

1) Did Trump's campaign know what information was going to be leaked by the Russians in advance

2) If they did, was Trump aware?

Remember, Trump knew for weeks that Flynn had discussed sanctions with the Russians before the Post article was published. And he only asked for Flynn to resign because he had lied to Pence. Trump is a micromanaging executive, and it's within his style to know what his subordinates are doing while giving his consent by omission.

The problem is you have the AG lying under oath.

It doesn't matter what he lied about. Its still perjury. And then it delves back into the issue of collusion with a foreign government to undermine the government of the US. If at any point the Russians worked with the Trump campaign its sedition. And anyone who was part of the contacts has committed sedition.

So now you have perjury and sedition being committed by the Attorney General. Plus all the other tack on poo poo like obstruction.

Its not going to snow ball unless the press keeps stories about it rolling out through 2018 and the Dems take control of both branches of Congress. Then they can clean house of republican committee leads, launch congressional investigations and then impeach Trump and everyone associated with the campaign. Or something happens that flips a large portion of reds against Trump and they dial up the pressure on congress to a point they can't not go after him. Which may actually happen when he signs off on Congress gutting SS/Medicare and then lets them cut infrastructure. Basically August may turn into a blood bath/French revolution. Because thats when the tax reform drops and people find out they lost ACA, infrastructure, SS/Medicare just to make it so the new tax reform can use the poor and middle class bankroll the wealthy and corporations.

It directly calls into question the capacity of the AG to oversee any investigation into the Russian hacking attempts, their impact, and the extent to which the current President was aware of their activities. It's a pretty big step towards enabling an investigation that seemingly has the potential to undermine the Presidency. The implications are pretty massive, particularly if the gravity of the accusation is made comprehensible to Joe Blow (through the media)

I'd say it's a smoking gun because I can't remember if anyone who's been revealed to have contact with Russia has tried to offer even the tiniest explanation of their actions. Everyone accused has claimed that the allegations are fake, and try to get it swept under the rug, which plays into people's "if they don't have something to hide, why won't they tell the truth" beliefs.

The editorial page wasn't nearly the print version of a slightly less insane Infowars until about mid-2016. There would be one fairly moderate editorial a week maybe 2, but then it went full bore Trump testicle gargling session. And yeah, easily the worst part of WSJ is the jarring difference between the editorial page(s) and the rest of the paper.
