I'm pretty sure it's a product specifically for hair but there is also a DIY thing out there about using actual store-bought intended-for-sandwhiches mayonnaise to treat split ends and other things so I don't know any more.

Rough Lobster posted:I love how in Dune, shooting something shielded with a laser beam will cause nuclear explosions both at the shield's location and at the shooter. So no one bothers trying to shoot each other any more because they could be shielded up and the shoot could nuke himself. That was literally a thing done a few times in the Frank Herbert series (don't read any of the poo poo his kid wrote) whenever someone wanted to take something out and didn't care about salvaging whatever was in the area they wanted to gently caress up. It was the rules-lawyer way to get around the "Anybody that uses actual nuclear bombs will get bombed to oblivion by the rest of the whatever-the-Space-UN-was-called" law that got broken all the time anyway by the aristocrats that cared about public image for using nukes. Also Stone Burners--literally planet-destroying grenades that could be carried in someone's pocket that avoided the "no nukes" rule. Basically they were "If I'm dying anyway and have time to react, I'm taking the whole fuckin' planet with me!" devices. They worked by dumping some kind of techno-babble matter out that would spread out and rapidly burn a hole to the planet's core so that the pressure release cracked the planet apart. It includes every instance involving a firearm or something similar being discharged at or near a school, including two suicides and a dude shooting a BB gun at a school bus. The idea that assholes firing their guns at or near a school only counts if children die is pretty loving stupid. That's like arguing that your mom cheating on your dad with everybody on the continent doesn't count because she isn't getting pregnant.

anatomi posted:I haven't read RP1, but is it a satire? This article about Ready Player One sums it up pretty well. quote:Nearly every one of Ready Player One’s faults is a direct result of Cline’s authorial narcissism. The writing process appears to have begun with the question: What if the entire world revolved around me, and the specific video games and movies I like? The rest was assembled around that essential core. Cline is far from the first author to write a self-insert wish fulfillment narrative, but he may be the first to write one this lazy and self-indulgent. To place oneself in the character of Wade Watts, an 18-year-old video game trivia knower, requires no imagined heroism or personal growth. It simply constructs a world around the reader, where his comfort zone, his passively acquired knowledge of retro video games and Star Wars, is enough to effortlessly make him a Great Man of History. A fantasy this mundane is barely a fantasy at all — just a desire to be unjustly rewarded for mediocrity. And, thanks to Steven Spielberg, Cline’s mediocrity has been rewarded beyond his wildest dreams. That's pretty much it. There is more in the article but the whole thing is basically one big cluster-gently caress. Some Pinko Commie has a new favorite as of 14:30 on Feb 2, 2018 |
