My mother went as Lara Croft to a fancy dress party when I was growing up, which ensured that I could never sexualize the character. Although, since this was a party at the British Embassy in Riyadh, the most notable event was the ambassador coming as Saint George, prompting Saudi tabloids to froth about how it was evidence that we were planning to infiltrate the country with Christianity.
