The weapons aren't that strong and have no bonuses, and the DLC characters scale in level to your current level at least. the 1,000,000 money is a lot immediately at the start but you'd be able to get there eventually anyway

You can break the game really early with or without the bonus content so it's up to you how you want to play. The 1 million HL will help save a lot of time grinding, since you can get there eventually on your own.

Lag is definitely a big factor. Played against a couple of people with Chinese or Japanese character names and many of my punches just went right through them like they were ghosts. Much as I hate to admit I like the motion controls better and they're more fun. My son has definitely won a few matches by randomly flailing though.
